There are new rules for Student visa (subclass 500) and Student Guardian visa (subclass 590) applications.

From 2 October 2026, the rules affect who can apply while in Australia and whether family can be included in an application. Limited exemptions apply.

Check how the new rules might affect you before enrolling in a course, making travel or relocation plans, or applying for a Student visa.

Important Update: Changes to Australia's Student Visa Rules

Dear Students, Parents, and Well-wishers,
You may have seen recent news about the Australian Government announcing changes to its student visa and migration rules. We understand this can raise concerns for families planning to study in Australia, and we want to share accurate information to help ease any confusion.

What has been announced:
🔹 Bringing family members- Most new international students will no longer be able to bring their spouse or children with them on a student visa, though exceptions are expected for PhD students, certain government-sponsored scholars, and students from some Pacific and ASEAN countries.
🔹 Visa applications while in Australia- Some rules are changing around when certain visa holders already in Australia can apply for a student visa.
🔹 Changing courses or extending studies- New restrictions may apply if a student wants to switch courses, extend their student visa, or move to a lower-level qualification while studying.
🔹 Transferring institutions- A new process is expected for students who wish to transfer from one education provider to another.
What this means for you right now:
These are announcements only- the Australian Government has not yet finalized or implemented these new rules. More details, including how and when these changes will apply, are still to come.
Until these new rules officially take effect, all current student visa requirements and processes remain unchanged, and students should continue their applications as normal.
We will continue to monitor this situation closely and share verified updates as soon as official details are confirmed. Please avoid relying on rumors or unofficial sources- always consult a registered education agent or check directly with the Australian Department of Home Affairs for the latest, accurate information.

Representatives of the Australian Education Agents' Association of Bangladesh (AEAAB), along with key stakeholders from the international education sector, recently attended an Austrade Education Brief and Networking Dinner Reception held on 13 May 2026 at the Sheraton Dhaka.

The event was hosted by the Australian Trade and Investment Commission (Austrade) and attended by senior Austrade officials including Vik Singh, Megha Gupta, and Mostafizur Rahman.

The program featured an Austrade briefing session, a DHA update, the launch of the Australian University Forum in Bangladesh, and networking opportunities with representatives from schools, universities, and various education sector stakeholders.

The event served as an important platform for strengthening collaboration between Australian institutions, Bangladeshi education stakeholders, and the wider international education community. Discussions focused on student mobility, sector development, compliance, and future opportunities for Australia–Bangladesh educational engagement.

AEAAB appreciates Austrade’s continued engagement with Bangladesh’s education sector and looks forward to further collaboration in promoting ethical student recruitment, quality international education, and stronger bilateral educational ties between Bangladesh and Australia.
