Abu Rushd Memorial Trust The Abu Rushd Literary Reading Circle cultivates the critical reading and writing of literature. For 2021, the awards will honor Bangladeshi novelists. F. R.

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES
The aims and objectives of the Trust shall be to promote authors, education, culture, research, publications, literary societies and libraries and related pursuits. Specific objectives include, but are not limited to, the following:
a) To promote Bangladeshi authors through a literary award granted on a recurring basis – The Abu Rushd Literary Prize. b) To own the copyrights to

Abu Rushd’s publications;
c) To support: (i) innovative research in literature, education and related areas; (ii) the publication of literary books and articles; (iii) educational institutions, teachers and students pursuing innovative and critical thinking; (iv) library development; and (v) cultural development. The Trust, sometimes in conjunction with a partner, intends to annually make awards honoring exceptional work by emerging and established Bangladeshi authors across diverse genres, including, but not limited to, novels, short story collections, essays, plays, and literary criticism written in Bangla, as well as translations into Bangla of literary work written in other languages. Rushd's first publication was a collection of short stories in 1939. In addition to six novels, he wrote 50 short stories, and a three-volume autobiography. Also, he was adept at translating literary works, both from Bengali to English (Songs of Lalon Shah) and English to Bengali, including Shakespeare's poems. Moreover, he was a regular columnist for numerous Bangladeshi newspapers, writing opinion pieces. Novels
