Appreciation and acknowledgement from government policymakers is one of the most important driving forces for young social entrepreneurs and their initiatives.

We are truly honored to have been acknowledged by the Principal SDG Coordinator of the Honorable Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Prof. Abdul-Awal, during his speech remarks at a summit in Dhaka.

This is undoubtedly a proud moment for Swaccha and a strong inspiration for our entire team to continue advancing our mission of reducing the 500M plastic toothbrush waste generated annually in Bangladesh.

Last week, our Founder Mahmudul Hasan Khan had a meaningful exchange with Professor SM Abdul Awal (Shohag), Principal SDG Coordinator to the PMO Bangladesh - প্রধানমন্ত্রীর কার্যালয়!

They discussed the future of social business and youth driven innovation for climate action, where he expressed genuine interest and enthusiasm after listening closely to one of our award-winning social business Swaccha’s work.

This took place during the panel discussion “Youths in Sustainable Development” at an event in the capital organized by 's Path, bringing together over 500 youths from across the country along with government policymakers, national experts, and young leaders.

We are grateful for the ongoing efforts of the government in achieving the SDGs and supporting innovative locally led solutions.

আরিব অনেকদিন ধরেই বিভিন্ন organization-এ volunteer হিসেবে কাজ করত... তারপর

একটা জিনিস তাকে ধীরে ধীরে বিরক্ত করতে শুরু করল। চারপাশের প্রায় সবাই একই ধরনের topic নিয়েই কাজ করছে। Eco-friendly product, handicrafts, sustainability, climate awareness…

এগুলো অবশ্যই important, কিন্তু এত বড় বড় সমস্যা নিয়ে দৌড়ঝাঁপ করতে গিয়ে নিজের সমাজের বাকি সমস্যাগুলো অবহেলিত হচ্ছে যা সামষ্টিকভাবে দেশের সামাজিক সমস্যাগুলোর পরিমাণ বাড়াচ্ছে...

একদিন volunteer work শেষে বাসায় ফিরে সে online এ ঘাঁটাঘাঁটি করতে করতে একটা পোস্টে “CityGen Builders" প্রোগ্রাম সম্পর্কে জানতে পারলো।

সে প্রথমে হেসেই ফেলেছিল।
“এতদিন জানতাম হ্যাকাথন হয় একদিনে অ্যাপ বা গেইম তৈরির জন্য। একদিনে আবার organization build হয় নাকি?”

তবুও তার passion ও leadership চর্চার প্রচণ্ড আগ্রহ থেকে apply করেই ফেলল।

Hackathon-এর দিন সকালে ভ্যেনু-তে ঢোকার সময় সে শুধু একজন passionate participant ছিল। কিন্তু দিনটা যত এগোতে লাগল, তার ভাবনাও বদলাতে লাগল।

Experts আর mentors রা problem-solving, investment-readiness, community mobilization, leadership, storytelling, organizational branding নিয়ে session নিলেন।

সবাইকে বলা হলো crowded topic follow না করে নিজেদের community তে solely observe করতে।

সেখানেই আরিব realise করল সে আসলে তার এলাকার মানুষদের loneliness আর mental health support system নিয়ে কাজ করতে চায়। কারণ তার major ও psychology নিয়ে!

তারপর শুরু হলো buildathon।

আর সবচেয়ে surprising ব্যাপার ছিল
সে future plan নিয়ে বের হয়নি।
সে already নিজের organization build করে ফেলেছিল।

সকালবেলা যেই ছেলেটি workshop-এ ঢুকেছিল শুধুমাত্র leadership mindset নিয়ে। বিকেলে সে বের হলো একজন founder হয়ে।

আমাদের সমাজকে ইতিবাচক পরিবর্তন দিয়ে বদলে দিতে বড় বড় সমস্যা নয় বরং নিজের আশেপাশের ছোট ছোট সমস্যাগুলো সমাধানেই সামগ্রিকভাবে সামাজিক সমস্যা সমাধান সম্ভব।

আপনিও কি কখনো রাইসার জায়গায় ছিলেন?

Meet Raisa (ছদ্মনাম), বয়স ১৪।

রাইসা এমন একটা পরিবারে বড় হওয়া মেয়ে—যেখানে তার মা-বাবা কে কখনো তাকে নিয়ে চিন্তা করত শিখতে হয় নি। জীবন সহজ ছিল বলে না। রাইসা তাদের জীবনটা কঠিন হতে দেয়নি বলে।

ক্লাস ওয়ান থেকে দরজা দিয়ে ঢুকেছে একটাই জিনিস নিয়ে—রেজাল্ট।

First. সবসময় First। কেউ তাকে জোর করেনি। সে নিজেই পারত না—ভাবতেই পারত না—যদি কোনোদিন মা-বাবার মুখে চিন্তা দেখি। ওই বাসায় “average” শব্দটা কখনো অপরাধ ছিল না। কারণ এভারেজ বলে কোন শব্দের existence ছিলই না ওর বাসায়! আর এই না-বলা, শান্ত, ভালোবাসার নীরবতাটাই—ওর জীবনের সবচেয়ে ভারী খাঁচা হয়ে গেছে।

তারপর একদিন— একই দরজা। একই বাসা। একই মানুষ। একই ভালোবাসা। কিন্তু রেজাল্টটা আলাদা।

বার্ষিক পরীক্ষায় রাইসা এবার ৩য় হয়েছে।

দরজার সামনে দাঁড়িয়ে ছিল অনেকক্ষণ। কিসের ভয়? ও জানত—কি হবে। আর তার থেকেও বেশি—কি হবে না। কেউ চিৎকার করবে না। কেউ বকবে না। শুধু তাকাবে। চোখে একটা চুপচাপ প্রশ্ন নিয়ে। সেই একই চোখ—যেগুলো দিয়ে তারা সবার সামনে বলত, “ওকে নিয়ে আমাদের কখনো চিন্তা করতে হয় না।”

১৪ বছরের একটা মেয়ে, একটা করিডরে দাঁড়িয়ে, রেজাল্ট শিট ভিজে যাচ্ছে চোখের পানিতে—নিজেকে একটা প্রশ্ন করল: “এইটা দেখার পরেও… আব্বু-আম্মু কি শান্তিতে থাকবে? আমাকে কি আর আগের মতো ভালোবাসবে? আম্মু কি আর আন্টিদের সামনে আমাকে তার মেয়ে বলে গর্ব করবে?”

Think about that for a second. এটা কোনো খারাপ রেজাল্টের গল্প না। এটা একটা বাচ্চার গল্প, যে প্রতিদিন নিজের কাঁধে মা-বাবার শান্তিটা বয়ে নিয়ে গেছে, কেউ না বললেও। কেউ না বুঝলেও কারণ সে কখনো শেখেইনি যে এই কৃত্রিম বোঝাটা নামিয়ে রাখাও তার অধিকার।

বাংলাদেশে এমন লক্ষ Raisa আছে এখনো। ভালো পরিবারে। চুপচাপ ভেঙে পড়ছে, কারণ কেউ কখনো বলেনি যে "মানুষ হওয়াটাই যথেষ্ট।"

তোমার বাসায় কি কোনো Raisa আছে? আজ রেজাল্ট জিজ্ঞেস করার আগে— একবার জিজ্ঞেস করবেন প্লিজ, “তুই কেমন আছিস, মা/বাবা?”
