VOSD is permitted to work all over Bangladesh. Main aim is to promote the socio-economic and cultural status of the rural & urban poor and disadvantaged people, emphasizing the women, disabled and children through concretization, capacity building, institution build and capital formation as well as imparting felt-need based problem solving programs. It believes in non-directive, bottom up, integra
ted and participatory development framework and works as a catalyst with its targeted people. So far, it has covered 10,500 villages of 818 Unions under 137 Upazilas in 35 Districts. VOSD strategies are with the philosophy of alleviation of poverty and empowerment of the targeted people. It came into being through the grim struggle of a band of dedicated, landless leaders and number of energetic young social workers. It has dedicated 9577 staffs and volunteers to derive away poverty, illiteracy, and malnutrition. VOSD has been working for last 27 years in the field of education, training, water & sanitation, agriculture, fisheries, livestock, micro-credit, health, nutrition, HIV/AIDS, socio-economic development & disaster management. VOSD awarded for contribution to Health, Nutrition, Education, Social Services, special contribution in Relief and Rehabilitation and Sanitation services which are as follows:

VOSD started group formation from 1987. It first selects the working areas, conducts baseline surveys and identifies targeted beneficiaries, then motivates on VOSD’S vision, mission, goal and objectives and its activities. When they realize to become united and organized, then they are organized into small groups, arranged weekly meetings to increase ideas, and collect weekly savings to develop group funds and continue those activities. The members are made capable by arranging different capacity and skills training, workshops and seminars. 7,65,638 persons are organized into app. 54,254 savings groups and accumulated savings Tk. 23,62,58,698/-, which is being revolved for undertaking income generating activities by the group members.
