We had a wonderful and productive meeting yesterday with Mr. Peter Dennis Pogose, Chairman of the Nicholas Pogose Foundation, and Mr. Lee Atkins, Trustee of the Foundation.

Established in the United Kingdom in memory of Mr. Nicky Pogose, the pioneering founder of The Pogose School—the first private school in Bangladesh—the Foundation continues his legacy by supporting transformative initiatives in education, technology and sports.

Both representatives conveyed their interest in holding a follow-up discussion with us to identify areas for collaboration. We look forward to building meaningful partnerships in pursuit of our shared vision.

We had a great meeting with the team, Yunus Sports Hub, France as a part of feasibility study in Dhaka, funded by the Agence Française de Développement (AFD), to explore the potential creation of a community-centered Third Place. This space would bring together sport, culture, and community-driven initiatives to foster social cohesion and local opportunity, especially in underserved areas.

Developing Sports in Bangladesh: A Roadmap for National Growth 🏏

Sports have always held the power to unite, inspire, and elevate a nation. In Bangladesh, while cricket has seen remarkable success, many other sports remain underdeveloped. A comprehensive, multi-sector approach can help Bangladesh unlock its full potential in the sporting arena.

1. Investment in Grassroots Programs
To build a strong foundation, sports must be introduced and encouraged from the grassroots level. Schools should have structured physical education programs, inter-school competitions, and proper facilities. Creating sports academies at district levels can help discover and nurture young talent.

2. Infrastructure Development
Most districts lack proper stadiums, training centers, and equipment. The government and private sector should collaborate to build modern sports facilities nationwide. Public-private partnerships can be effective in financing and managing these infrastructures.

3. Professional Training & Coaching
Quality coaching is critical for skill development. Bangladesh needs to invest in training local coaches and bringing in international expertise for knowledge exchange. Regular coaching certification programs and workshops can raise the standard of training.

4. Talent Scouting & Development Programs
Nationwide scouting events and youth leagues can help identify promising athletes. Once identified, these individuals should be supported with scholarships, training, and mentoring to groom them into professional athletes.

5. Encouraging Women in Sports
Gender disparity in sports needs to be addressed. Ensuring equal facilities, safety, and incentives for women athletes can enhance participation and performance in national and international arenas.

6. Media & Corporate Sponsorship
Media coverage can boost the popularity of lesser-known sports. Corporates should be incentivized through tax breaks or recognition for sponsoring teams, events, and athletes.

7. Sports Science & Nutrition
Integrating sports science, including fitness training, injury management, and proper nutrition, will elevate performance levels. Collaborating with universities and medical institutions can drive this integration.

8. Policy Support & Governance
A national sports policy that aligns with long-term goals is essential. Efficient and transparent sports governance, free from political interference, will foster a healthy sports culture.

With strategic planning, community involvement, and consistent investment, Bangladesh has the potential to emerge as a sporting powerhouse in South Asia. The time to act is now.

Indoor Cricket Stadium>>>
The England & Wales Cricket Board (ECB) is taking bold steps in revolutionizing the future of cricket in the UK by exploring the possibility of indoor cricket stadiums. Drawing inspiration from Cricket Australia’s visionary plans for Tasmania, the ECB is considering a transformative move that could significantly impact the sport, not only in terms of playability but also the commercial landscape surrounding it.

Indoor cricket stadiums would shield matches from unpredictable British weather, a challenge that has long plagued cricket, especially during the summer months. Imagine a scenario where matches go ahead rain or shine, with no interruptions, no abandoned games, and no need for weather-dependent scheduling. This would not only increase the number of matches played but would also provide a level of consistency previously unseen in English cricket.

The financial benefits of such a development could be substantial. Year-round ticket sales, coupled with consistent hospitality revenue, would offer cricket clubs and stakeholders a more stable income stream. Hosting events in an indoor environment ensures that fans could enjoy world-class cricket throughout the year, without worrying about cancelled or postponed matches due to rain. This would undoubtedly enhance the sport’s appeal to both dedicated fans and newcomers, as the match experience would no longer be compromised by external factors.

For fans, the experience would be elevated beyond just the sport itself. Indoor stadiums could integrate state-of-the-art technology, improving accessibility, comfort, and engagement through advanced viewing options, interactive features, and improved amenities. This could be the foundation for a new era of fan engagement, where weather is no longer a concern, and the focus remains solely on the excitement of the game.

As the landscape of global cricket infrastructure evolves, England’s potential move towards indoor stadiums represents a forward-thinking approach to maintaining its competitive edge in world cricket. If successful, this ambitious plan could position the ECB as a leader in cricket innovation, driving the sport's growth and development in the UK while setting a new standard for other countries to follow. The future of cricket could be one where fans, players, and stakeholders alike no longer have to battle the elements, ushering in a new era for the game.
