Across different cultures and societies, certain customs and traditions have historically been used to regulate women’s bodies.

From female ge***al mutilation and breast ironing to forced fattening and widowhood rituals, many of these practices are tied to ideas about purity, beauty, marriage, honour, and social control.

SheEqual organized a courtyard session at Rajapur Union, Bogura Sadar, to raise awareness on digital violence against women and girls.

The awareness session was conducted under SheEqual’s “Support the Survivors” campaign and facilitated by our dedicated Community Change Maker, Puspa. The session focused on understanding digital violence, its impacts, information of support services, and the importance of standing with survivors.

Stop nepotism! Stop protecting perpetrators 🚫 📢

When we defend someone just because they are “known,” “connected,” or “one of us,” we simply allow violence to continue in silence.

Nepotism doesn’t save communities; it destroys trust, silences survivors, and strengthens those who harm others. True courage is choosing justice over loyalty, and true leadership is holding perpetrators accountable, no matter who they are.

True change begins when we stand beside survivors, not the people who hurt them. If you want to be part of a safer society, then break the cycle of favoritism, demand accountability, and let justice speak louder than connections.

Ending violence against women and girls requires all of us standing together with purpose. When people from every part of society, especially men and boys, step up as allies, then real change begins.

We need voices that challenge harmful norms, actions that prevent violence, and hearts that respect women’s rights at home and in every community. Let’s unite, speak out, and build a world where every woman and girl lives with safety, dignity, and equality.

Home is not a safe place for many women in Bangladesh. Approximately 76% of women have experienced some form of intimate partner violence (IPV), including physical, s*xual, emotional, economic, or controlling behavior. In disaster-prone areas, the number rises to 81%, compared to 68% in non-disaster regions.
Yet many women remain silent. They hesitate to seek help due to fear of victim-blaming, social stigma, lack of awareness about violence, and limited information on available GBV services. The high cost of medical treatment and legal aid also keeps many survivors from reaching out for support.

No woman should face violence or struggle alone. We must break the silence and ensure accessible, survivor-centered services for all.

All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights. No one should face discrimination because of their gender, race, s*x, colour, religion, or social status. Everyone is equally entitled to justice, protection, and respect under the law.

This International Human Rights Day, SheEqual urges everyone to stand together and uphold these rights for all.
