ART EXHIBITION: CALL FOR SUBMISSION

For the first time, DEH will hold an Art Exhibition exclusively featuring artwork by DEH students/ alumni at the 9th Inter-University Student Conference and Cultural Competition on October 19-20, 2023.
Submission Guidelines and Copyright Policies
I. Eligibility:
The exhibition is open to current students and alumni of the Department of English and Humanities, University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh only.
All forms of visual art, including but not limited to painting, drawing, photography, and digital art, are welcome.
II. Artwork Specifications:
Maximum Artwork Size (framed): 18 x 24 inches (48 x 61 cm)
Artwork must be original and unpublished.
Each student can submit only ONE piece of artwork.
Artworks must be properly framed and ready for display.
Artworks MUST adhere to the conference theme
III. Submission Process:
Deadline for Submission: October 12, 2023
Submission Format: High-resolution digital images (JPEG or PNG) of the artwork.
Image file names should include the student's name, ID, and artwork title. (*For alumni, please write your graduation year instead of ID)
A brief artist statement (maximum 50 words) for each artwork.

In the email subject, please mention: "GBB: Submission for Art Exhibition"
IV. Selection Process:
A panel of judges will review the submissions.
Selections will be based on creativity, originality, and artistic merit.
Selected artists will be notified via email by October 15, 2023.
V. Copyright and Ownership:
By submitting your artwork, you grant the Department of English and Humanities at the University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh the non-exclusive right to display and promote your artwork during the exhibition.
You retain all copyrights to your artwork, and it will not be used for any purpose other than social media promotion and the exhibition without your explicit consent.
Any sales inquiries regarding your artwork will be forwarded to you, and the university will not take a commission on sales.
VI. Exhibition Details:
Date: October 19-20, 2023
Venue: Lobby, Building D, Mohammadpur Campus
The exhibition will be inaugurated on October 19, 2023 at 9.00 am
All selected artists are expected to attend the inauguration
VII. Return of Artworks:
Artworks must be collected by the artists at the end of the exhibition on October 20, 2023 by 5.00 pm
Failure to collect artworks by the specified date may result in the university taking temporary custody of the art until further arrangements are made.

Hearty congratulations to Kazi Tawfiq Tazim (Batch 191) for winning the first runner-up position at the ULAB DifferenceMaker entrepreneurship competition. Tawfiq will receive the sum of Tk. 50,000 seed money to fund his project "FRSHR" (pronounced "Fresher"). Tawfiq was the only participant from DEH.

About the Project:
FRSHR is about producing fish and vegetables using aquaponics, a new and better method for agriculture. This would help to alleviate the severe problem of food security and decreasing farmlands in Bangladesh as it can be done in a significantly smaller space with about 90% less water usage than traditional farming. This method is gaining popularity and traction overseas and Tawfiq is planning to do it in Bangladesh, an agrarian country, where it is desperately needed.

About DifferenceMaker:
"DifferenceMaker" is a flagship program of the University of Massachusetts, Lowell, MA, USA that has been successfully running for the past eight years in assisting students to start sustainable new ventures that solve society's problems. Since 2012, approximately 15 new ventures per year have been launched with the program’s mentorship and seed funding. Under the leadership of Professor Shamsad Mortuza, ULAB has signed an agreement with UMass Lowell. Participants will be able to use their carefully designed materials, along with local resources, which will cater to students' needs. Students from any discipline will have the opportunity to engage in innovative thinking and initiate new ventures. Internal and external experts will guide the students from ideation to commercialization of the projects. ULAB DifferenceMaker is a campus-wide entrepreneur program/competition which engages undergraduate students through creative problem solving, innovation, and entrepreneurship. Through creative problem solving, students are enabled to pursue their ideas, focus on having a positive impact on the world. Students will receive training, mentorship, technical support, and the top three participants will receive seed funds (Winner: 70,000 BDT, 1st Runner-Up: 50,000 BDT, and 2nd Runner-Up: 30,000 BDT). All the participating students will also receive a Certificate. This will be a great launching pad for students who are thinking about taking the Entrepreneurship route. Students who are considering a traditional career path will also benefit from the experience, as all graduates of the program will possess an entrepreneurial mindset and be better problem-solvers.
