Eid Without Sacrifice: Reduced Rations Dim Festivities in Rohingya Camps

Rohingya Rights Initiative (RRI) expresses deep concern as thousands of Rohingya families in the refugee camps face another painful Eid-ul-Adha amid reduced food rations, poverty, and ongoing humanitarian suffering.

While Muslims around the world prepare to celebrate Eid with sacrifice and joy, many Rohingya families are struggling to secure even basic meals. For displaced communities who once celebrated Eid with dignity in their homeland, this yearโ€™s Eid remains marked by hardship, uncertainty, and loss.

RRI calls on the international community, humanitarian agencies, and global leaders to urgently address the worsening conditions in the camps and ensure that Rohingya families can live with dignity, safety, and hope.

No one should be forgotten during Eid.

Rohingya Rights Initiative (RRI) expresses deep concern over reports of alleged forced conscription, arbitrary detention, and abuses against Daingnet (Chakma) civilians in Thinbaw Hla Village, Taung Pyo Letwe Sub-township, Maungdaw Township, Rakhine State.

According to reports, more than 100 civilians, including elderly people and family breadwinners, were reportedly detained following tensions linked to alleged forced recruitment by the Arakan Army (ULA/AA). Civilians, including pregnant women, were also reportedly injured during the incidents.

We urgently call for the immediate release of all detained civilians, unhindered humanitarian access, and independent investigations into the allegations. The protection of civilians and respect for human rights must be ensured for all communities in Rakhine State.

RRI stands in solidarity with all oppressed and vulnerable communities facing violence, fear, and injustice.

Eid Mubarak from Rohingya Rights Initiative (RRI).

May this Eid bring compassion to humanity and strength to all oppressed communities around the world.

Together, let us stand for Rohingya rights and humanity.

Rohingya Rights Initiative (RRI) โ€“ Urgent Situation Report & Advocacy Statement

Date: 4 May
Time: Around 5:00 AM

Reports indicate that mortar shelling occurred in Buthidaung Township, where Muslim civilians were temporarily sheltering within the grounds of Basic Education High School No. 1. The incident has reportedly resulted in fatalities and multiple injuries.

The affected population consists of innocent civilians who were forced to flee their villages due to ongoing clashes, arson attacks, and serious security threats. Many women, children, and elderly persons are among those currently taking refuge in the school compound, living in fear, uncertainty, and extremely vulnerable conditions. Immediate humanitarian needs including emergency medical assistance, food supplies, and safe shelter are critical and urgent.

Such incidents resulting in harm and loss of civilian lives highlight the severe impact of ongoing armed conflict on non-combatants and represent a serious concern for regional peace and human security. RRI reiterates that all parties must fully respect international humanitarian law, including the protection of civilians and civilian infrastructure during armed conflict.

The situation on the ground remains deeply alarming, with displaced communities continuing to face fear and instability while lacking adequate protection and essential services.

Rohingya Rights Initiative (RRI) strongly condemns the rising kidnappings and insecurity inside the Rohingya refugee camps. The recent kidnapping of MD Juhar from Jamtoli Camp (15) is another alarming example of the fear and danger Rohingya refugees face day by day.

We urgently request the Bangladesh government and concerned authorities to give immediate attention to this serious situation, conduct a full investigation, and take strong action against all kidnappers and criminal groups operating in the camps.

We also call on the international community, human rights organizations, and humanitarian agencies to pay urgent attention to the worsening security situation in the Rohingya refugee camps and stand with the Rohingya people during this critical time.

Rohingya refugees should not continue living in fear, insecurity, and violence after already surviving persecution and genocide in Myanmar. Justice, protection, and safety are fundamental human rights for every refugee.

May Allah protect all innocent people and bring back all missing persons safely.

A real and heartbreaking video reportedly shows the Arakan Army (AA) brutally killing innocent Rohingya civilians and throwing their bodies into the Naf River between Myanmar and Bangladesh. According to reports, this footage was recorded within the last two years, especially during 2024.

These innocent victims were fathers, mothers, brothers, sisters, and children. They were human beings whose lives were taken with unimaginable cruelty and without any justification. The pain and suffering of the Rohingya people continue while the world remains silent.

We will never forget such horrific massacres committed against our community. We will never forget the tears of the mothers, the cries of the children, and the countless innocent lives lost. Justice delayed is justice denied.

The international community, human rights organizations, and the United Nations must urgently investigate these atrocities and hold the perpetrators accountable for crimes committed against the Rohingya people.

How many more innocent Rohingya must die before the world takes action?

As Myanmar junta leader Min Aung Hlaing prepares for his June visit to India, the international community must urge meaningful action toward justice, accountability, and a lasting solution for the Rohingya people.

India holds significant regional influence and has an important opportunity to support peace, regional stability, safe and dignified Rohingya repatriation, and the protection of human rights in Myanmar.

The Rohingya crisis cannot continue to be ignored while millions remain displaced, stateless, and vulnerable across the region.

We call on regional and international actors to prioritize:
โ€ข Protection of Rohingya civilians
โ€ข Human rights and accountability
โ€ข Safe, voluntary, and dignified repatriation
โ€ข Humanitarian access and regional stability

Burma Campaign UK told DVB that the British government has not announced any sanctions against the Arakan Army (AA) over alleged mass killings and human rights violations against Rohingya and other ethnic minorities in areas under its control.

Rohingya Rights Initiative (RRI) continues to closely monitor and document the ongoing human rights situation affecting Rohingya communities and other civilians impacted by conflict in Myanmar. RRI calls for accountability, justice, and stronger international action to protect vulnerable communities from ongoing abuses and violence.

After deeply monitoring and investigating the activities and narratives promoted by the page โ€œNi Min Tun Journalist,โ€ Rohingya Rights Initiative (RRI) has serious concerns regarding the credibility, neutrality, and intentions behind the content regularly shared on the platform.

Based on our observations and documentation, we believe the page consistently promotes narratives closely aligned with the Arakan Army (AA) while spreading one-sided information, misinformation, anti-Rohingya rhetoric, and divisive propaganda targeting the Rohingya community.

In our assessment, this cannot be considered responsible or independent journalism. A real journalist should uphold professionalism, truth, impartiality, and the protection of civilians during conflict not contribute to hatred, Islamophobia, incitement, and further tensions between Rohingya and Rakhine communities in Arakan/Rakhine State.

We are especially concerned that such narratives may encourage future abuses and deepen instability in the region while ignoring the suffering and rights of innocent civilians.

RRI calls on social media platforms, journalists, human rights defenders, and the international community to pay closer attention to harmful misinformation and inflammatory content that violates community standards and threatens peaceful coexistence.

Silence against misinformation and hate speech only strengthens division and injustice.

Rohingya Rights Initiative (RRI) expresses deep concern over reports that two Rohingya girls travelling to Malaysia were abducted by a human trafficking network and are reportedly still in the hands of traffickers linked to the Arakan Army (AA) while being held for ransom.

According to reports, the traffickers are threatening to sell the victims if ransom payments are not made. This alarming case highlights the ongoing dangers faced by vulnerable Rohingya refugees, especially women and children, who continue to face exploitation, trafficking, and abuse while seeking safety and protection.

Through advocacy and documentation, Rohingya Rights Initiative (RRI) calls for urgent international intervention, immediate rescue efforts, and stronger protection measures to dismantle human trafficking networks targeting Rohingya refugees.

We stand in solidarity with all efforts demanding justice, accountability, and protection for Rohingya victims of trafficking and exploitation.
