IN RAKHINE, HOPE FOR RETURN #

Today, the Rohang Heritage Center at Camp-6 had the great honor of welcoming a special guest, Mr. SIMAKOV nick name Alexander from Ukraine with an altruistic support of a BRAC officer.

Throughout his journey, he has visited many countries around the world and recently came to Bangladesh with a view to perceiving the destitute and miserable lives of the Rohingya refugees( FDMN) in the world largest refugee camp in Katupalong to be empathetic and demonstrates his experience of being refugee. He is also curious regarding the proactive camp management and service management for the Ronigya provided by the Bangladesh government.

During his visit to the Rohang Heritage Center, Mr. SIMAKOV expressed great excitement and happiness after learning about the history, culture, memories and identity of Rohang (Arakan) preserved in Rohang Heritage Center. He appreciated the efforts being made to protect and showcase the heritage of the Rohingya community for future generations. And expressed humble gratitude and respect for such a visionary initiative of camp 6 CIC sir.

The Rohingya Heritage Center is a unique initiative dedicated to preserving the history, culture, and identity of future generations of the Rohingya community. It ensures that Rohingya people remember their history, cultural heritage, and the decades of persecution endured in their ancestral homeland, Arakan.
The center serves as a valuable historical resource for the Rohingya community and operates as a community-led initiative under the leadership of the Honourable Camp-in-Charge of Camp 06, Mr. Gazi Shariful Hasan, Deputy Secretary.
A Reading Club for Rohingya children and teenagers has also been established under the center through the facilitation of Khin Maung, President Panel Member of the United Council of Rohingya (UCR). The club organizes weekly discussions on Rohingya history, culture, and identity.
During the session, discussions were held on the 1942 Rohingya genocide and the long history of systematic persecution faced by the Rohingya community in Myanmar.
This Reading Club plays an important role in helping younger generations learn about Rohingya history and culture in their own language, especially for those who have limited knowledge or personal experience of their heritage.

A few days ago, the RRRC visited the Rohingya Heritage Centre at Camp 06—an initiative thoughtfully undertaken by Mr. Gazi Shariful Hasan, Camp-in-Charge of Camp 06. The Centre serves as a reflective space, inviting the Rohingya community to revisit its collective memory and cultural legacy with dignity and introspection.

This initiative represents a commendable effort to preserve historical narratives and document lived experiences, fostering awareness among present and future generations. By safeguarding narratives of resilience and endurance, the Heritage Centre contributes to a deeper and more nuanced understanding of the community’s identity and heritage.

Such endeavors underscore the salience of memory, cultural continuity, and informed dialogue, while reaffirming our shared commitment to humanitarian principles, respect, and peaceful coexistence.
