🦁 🐠The Little Golden Fish

Once there lived a poor fisherman and his nagging wife. One day, the fisherman went to the sea and caught a golden fish. The fish pleaded, “Oh, please let me go! I am the king of the sea! I will grant you any wish!” The fisherman was surprised to see the golden fish, and let it go. He went home and told this to his wife and she became angry. She said, “You fool! You should have asked for a new bathtub! Haven’t you seen how bad our old one is?” So, the fisherman went to the sea again and told the golden fish about his wife’s wish. When he came home, he found a brand new bathtub, but the greedy wife was not happy. She ordered, “Go to the fish again and ask him for a big house now!”

The fisherman was scared of his wife and he went to see the golden fish again. When the fish heard about the new wish he said, “I will grant you the wish because you are kind. Go, be happy!”

When the fisherman reached home, he found the wife in a palace wearing expensive clothes. But the ungrateful wife was still not satisfied and ordered, “Go find that fish right now and ask him to make me the queen of this world! Go!”

The witless fisherman ran to find the fish. However, this time, the little golden fish did not appear. Suddenly, there was a flash of lightning and a bolt of thunder. He ran home to find that the golden fish had taken back all the wishes. The fisherman realised that if he had not listened to his greedy wife, they would not have lost the bathtub or the palace and would have been very rich.

🍃Why Dogs Wag Their Tails

Once a merchant had a cat and a dog. The dog had served his master well. But now that it was old, his only task was to guide the young cat. One day, the merchant decided to send his daughter a magic ring. He ordered the cat to carry the ring in his mouth and the dog to guide the cat to his daughter’s house. The cat and the dog obediently left.

On the way, they came across a river that had to be crossed. Thinking that the cat might lose the ring, the dog snatched it from him. However, while crossing the river, the dog himself dropped it midway.

When the cat told the master about the ring, the angry master sent other dogs to bite off the culprit’s tail.

Since then, whenever a dog meets another of its species it asks, “Are you the one who lost the ring?” The dog replies with a wag of its tail to prove that he is not the guilty one.

This is why dogs always wag their tails.

A very nice story to read

Aladdin

Once there lived a poor widow and her son, Aladdin. One day, Aladdin’s uncle, Mustafa, came to visit them. He said, “Sister, why don’t you let Aladdin come and work for me?” They agreed and Mustafa took Aladdin along with him. They walked in the desert and came to a cave. The cave was full of riches and treasures but Mustafa was afraid to go inside. He wanted Aladdin to go in and get him the treasures instead. “Go inside,” commanded Mustafa, “and find me the jewels. You will also find a lamp. Bring it to me.”

Aladdin went inside and found more riches than he could ever imagine. He found a beautiful ring and wore it on his finger. He also collected as many gems as he could, but before he could come out of the cave, Mustafa said, “Quick! Just hand me all, the jewels and the lamp!” Aladdin refused. Angry at the refusal, his cruel uncle blocked the entrance of the cave and left.

Aladdin sat in the dark and cried. Then he saw the old lamp and decided to light it. While cleaning it, he rubbed the lamp and out came a genie! “Master, I shall grant you three wishes,” he said. Aladdin said, “Take me home!” In seconds, Aladdin was with his mother, counting the gems he had brought from the cave. Aladdin also brought the ring along with him and when he rubbed it, out came another genie! “Master, I shall grant you three wishes!” said the genie. “Make us rich and happy!” said Aladdin. And Aladdin and his mother lived happily.

One day, Aladdin saw the sultan’s daughter and fell in love with her. He went to the palace with gems and asked for her hand in marriage. The king agreed to this. After marriage, Aladdin showered the princess with all the riches and gave her a huge palace to live in. When the sultan died, Aladdin ruled the kingdom. He was just and kind hearted and everybody was happy under his rule.

Meanwhile, Mustafa came to know how Aladdin found the magic lamp and became rich. He wanted to take the lamp back. So, one day, when Aladdin was away, Mustafa came to the palace dressed as a trader. He cried out, “Get new lamps for old ones! New lamps for old!” Hearing this, the princess took out the magic lamp and gave it to him. She did not know that the old lamp was indeed magical. She bought a shiny new lamp instead. Mustafa gladly took the lamp and went away. He then commanded the genie, “Send Aladdin’s entire palace into the deserts in Africa!” And saying this, Mustafa, along with the princess in the palace, were sent to Africa. Aladdin, on coming back, found his wife and house missing. He searched for the palace for three long days. Finally, he rubbed his magic ring and asked the genie, “Please take me to my princess!” The genie agreed. When he met his wife, Aladdin and the princess decided to trick Mustafa.

One night, the princess said to Mustafa, “I don’t think Aladdin will ever find me here! I might as well live as your slave for I am certain he is dead now!” Mustafa was very happy and ordered for a feast. During the feast, the princess got Mustafa drunk and he fell into a deep sleep.

In the meantime, the princess took the magic lamp to Aladdin. Together, they asked the genie of the lamp to take the entire palace back to Aladdin’s kingdom. The genie then killed Mustafa and Aladdin and the princess lived happily ever after.

🌷 The Performer and the Flea

Once there was a performer who had trained a flea to perform tricks. He went from place to place with his performing flea to earn money.

One day, they visited a distant country and performed in a king’s court. The princess was delighted with the flea’s performance and wanted to keep the flea. She was very stubborn and refused to eat food if her wish was not granted. The king forced the performer to give him the flea and gave it to his daughter. The princess was very happy once her wish was fulfilled.

Left with no means of earning a livelihood, the performer was very upset and wanted his flea back but didn’t know what to do.

After a lot of thought, he made a plan. He disguised himself and went to the king.

“Sire, I beg permission to make a big cannon for you,” he pleaded. The king happily agreed. The performer asked for a piece of silk cloth, some ropes and a basket. But instead of making a cannon he made a big balloon.

The king who had never seen a cannon or a balloon believed the clever performer. The performer told the king that he needed the help of a flea to cool the cannon. The king called for the flea and handed it to the performer.

The clever performer jumped into the balloon and flew away to his country with his flea.

🌸Hard Work and Laziness

In a large house, lived a lazy Young Man. He woke up in the afternoon, ate his meals and then lay in bed again. He had a parrot named Polly. She watched this lazy fellow and was puzzled by him.

One day, Polly asked the Young Man, “Don’t you get tired of lying in bed all day and all night? The sun has been out hours ago, and people have finished half their day’s work.”

“Why are you so lazy?” she asked, as she ruffled her feathers.

The Young Man yawned and answered, “Every morning, when I wake up, two friends whisper in my ears. One friend is Hard Work and the other Laziness.” “Hard Work says, Wake up! There is lots to do today. Time is passing by, don’t waste it by sleeping.’ But Laziness says, Why the hurry to wake up? Sleep some more. Why should you work while there are others to work hard?”‘

The Young Man continued, “I listen patiently to both my friends. All my time goes by like that and so, I keep lying in bed for a long time.”

🔥Just talk does not help; we should get up and work

🌸The Blind Man and the Lame Man

Once, a Blind Man was walking along a rough road. He found it very difficult to walk alone as he could not see the bumps and the puddles on the road.

Just then, someone touched the Blind Man’s arm. It was a Lame Man.

The Blind Man introduced himself to the Lame Man and said, “Dear friend, I am facing difficulty walking on the road alone. Will you please guide me and help me complete my journey?”

The Lame Man replied sadly, “I would have readily helped you, my friend, but I am lame and cannot move

even an inch without help. How will I guide you?”

The Lame Man then thought for a moment and said to the Blind Man, “You seem to be strong and healthy. If you carry me on your shoulders, we can both complete our journey. I will guide you as I can see and you can carry me as you have strong legs.”

The Blind Man readily agreed to the solution offered by the Lame Man.

Both men helped each other and completed their journey, safely and with pleasure.

🌸The Mice and the Owl

Once, there lived a Wise Owl. He made his nest in the hollow of a tree.

He would fly to a particular tree, every day and pick up his food. Then, he would fly back home and slowly enjoy his meal, there.

One day, the other birds asked him how he got his food so easily.

The Wise Owl said, “I was flying one day, when I saw the half chopped-down bark of a tree. It was full of insects and Mice. When I tried to catch the Mice, some of them ran away too quickly. So, I thought of an idea. I began to feed the Mice with wheat, every day. The Mice became fat and healthy. Then I bit off all their feet!”

The Birds understood that the footless Mice now could not run. They waited each day for the Owl to bring them wheat.
The Owl brought them food faithfully each day.

Then, every day he would pick up one Mouse and take it home to eat! In this way the Owl had well-fed meals ready and waiting for him. He did not have to go in search of food ever!

🌸The Goat and the Goatherd

There was once an adventurous Goat. He was young, frisky and curious. He would ask, “What lies on the other side?” The other Goats just bleated and ate more grass.

The Goatherd would try very hard to bring this Goat back in time. The Goat would try his best to be free as long as possible.

One day, as usual, the Goat went exploring.

“Oh, no! That naughty Goat is missing again! Where has he gone now?” cried the angry Goatherd.

The Goatherd whistled till his throat dried up. He blew his horn till he was red in the face.

Tired of everything and wanting to get home to a warm supper and fire, the Goatherd threw a stone at the distant Goat.

This stone hit the Goat’s horn, which broke into two pieces.

The Goatherd was scared that the Master would shout at him for breaking the horn. So, he said to the Goat, “I beg you, do not tell the Master that I broke your horn.”

The Goat said, “You silly fellow, I won’t have to say a thing. The broken horn will tell its own story!”

🔥Do not attempt to hide things, which cannot be hidden.

🌸The Ass and the Gardener

Once, an Ass had an accident and lost his tail. He was very saddened by this loss. He cried the whole day and missed his tail. He thought, ‘I miss having my tail. I think I should go out and search for it!’

The Ass went all around the meadow searching for his tail. He was weeping, when he entered a garden. He crushed the plants under his feet as he was lost in his own thoughts. The Gardener saw the Ass and became alert. He thought, ‘This Ass has come to my garden to spoil my plants and eat my vegetables. I will have to save my garden from him!’

The Gardener went inside his cottage and brought a pair of scissors. When he saw the Ass walking over his vegetables and plants, he got angry. He shouted at the Ass, but the Ass did not listen to him.

The Gardener ran towards the Ass and cut off both his ears. The Ass was shocked and cried in pain. Now, besides his tail, he also cried out for the loss of his ears!

🔥We should not lose our senses in difficult times, for we may then face more losses.
