Another heartbreaking tragedy unfolds in the Andaman Sea, where nearly 250–280 Rohingya men, women, and children are feared victims of a devastating boat capsize. These were not just numbers — they were lives filled with hope, dreams, and the simple desire for safety and dignity.

This incident is not an accident alone; it reflects a profound failure of global responsibility. When people are left with no safe pathways, they are forced into dangerous journeys, risking everything for survival.

The Rohingya continue to flee persecution, statelessness, and uncertainty, only to face new dangers at sea. How many more lives must be lost before meaningful action is taken?

The world cannot remain silent. Compassion must turn into concrete protection, accountability, and durable solutions.

Every life lost is a reminder: we can, and must, do better.

Official Statement | Rohingya Humanity Information (RHI)

Rohingya Humanity Information (RHI) expresses its deepest sorrow and condemnation over the tragic death of Nurul Amin Sha Alam, a Rohingya refugee and genocide survivor. His death has sparked serious concern worldwide, prompting voices from U.S. lawmakers, global media outlets, and human rights professionals to demand accountability and justice.

As Rohingya community based nonprofit organisation, we are deeply alarmed that in a country widely recognized as a champion of democracy and human rights—the United States—a vulnerable Rohingya refugee was left unsafe, unprotected, and ultimately lost his life. This tragedy raises grave questions about the treatment, protection, and dignity afforded to refugees, particularly those who are survivors of genocide, persons with disabilities, and individuals facing language and cultural barriers.

Nurul Amin Sha Alam fled unimaginable atrocities in Myanmar seeking safety and dignity. No refugee who survives genocide should face neglect, insecurity, discrimination, or abandonment in any country—especially not in places that uphold the rule of law and humanitarian values. The reported circumstances surrounding his release and treatment by authorities, including concerns related to United States Border Patrol, reflect a systemic failure to protect the most vulnerable.

This is not an isolated concern. It reflects a broader pattern of risk faced by Rohingya refugees and other displaced communities worldwide—even after reaching countries of resettlement. Safety should not end at a border, and protection must not depend on language, disability, or influence.

RHI calls for:

A transparent, independent, and impartial investigation into the circumstances surrounding Nurul Amin Sha Alam’s death;

Full accountability for any negligence or misconduct by responsible authorities;

Immediate policy reforms to ensure the safety, dignity, and humane treatment of refugees, especially those with vulnerabilities;

Stronger safeguards so no refugee is ever again abandoned or left at risk after release from custody.

We urge U.S. authorities, international human rights bodies, civil society, and the global community to treat this case as a wake-up call. Justice for Nurul Amin Sha Alam must be delivered—not only for his family, but to prevent future tragedies and to uphold the principles of humanity and protection for all refugees.

Rohingya lives matter. Refugee lives matter.
Justice delayed is justice denied.

Statement by the Government of Bangladesh on the ICJ Case (The Gambia v. Myanmar)

Rohingya Humanity Information (RHI) welcomes and strongly acknowledges the principled statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh regarding Myanmar’s submissions before the International Court of Justice (ICJ).

The Government of Bangladesh has rightly rejected Myanmar’s continued attempt to misidentify the Rohingya people as “Bengalis”—a deliberate narrative aimed at denying the Rohingya their inherent right to self-identification, erasing their historical presence in Arakan (Rakhine), and justifying persecution, exclusion, and the 2016–17 genocidal violence.

The statement reaffirms that the Rohingya are a distinct ethnic community with deep historical, cultural, and social roots in Arakan, predating modern borders. It also highlights how Myanmar’s 1982 Citizenship Law, systematic disenfranchisement, and forced displacement were part of a planned process to render the Rohingya stateless and destroy them as a community.

RHI echoes Bangladesh’s call on Myanmar to:

Recognize the Rohingya as an integral part of its society and State

End denial of identity and rights

Create a safe and conducive environment in Rakhine

Ensure voluntary, safe, dignified, and rights-based return of the Rohingya with full citizenship and equality

Justice, accountability, and truth are essential for any durable solution. Denial of identity is not history—it is a tool of oppression.

✊ Rohingya identity is not negotiable.
✊ Justice for Rohingya is long overdue.

🔥 Emergency Alert | Rohingya Refugee Camp Fire – Camp 16, Shofulla Khata

Last night, a devastating fire broke out in Rohingya Refugee Camp–16 (Shofulla Khata), destroying and damaging more than 500 shelters and critical camp infrastructure, according to UNHCR.

Thanks to the heroic efforts of Rohingya refugee volunteers and the Bangladesh Fire Service, the flames were brought under control and lives were saved. No injuries were reported—but the humanitarian impact is severe and heartbreaking.

The fire has been destroyed or damaged:

Hundreds of family shelters

Learning centres and NGO offices

Food stocks and cooking items

LPG gas, reading books, and essential NFI materials

Today, hundreds of families are left shelterless, without food, basic household items, women’s hygiene kits, or warm clothing for children and elderly people during the winter season.

For families who have already endured displacement, persecution, and trauma, this disaster has taken away the little safety and dignity they had rebuilt.

🚨 Urgent needs include:

Emergency shelters

Food assistance

NFI and hygiene kits

Winter clothing for children and the elderly

Medical support

Rohingya Humanity Information (RHI) urgently calls on humanitarian actors, donors, and the international community to respond immediately and stand in solidarity with the affected families.

📌 The Rohingya cannot afford to be forgotten—especially in moments of crisis.

Inna Lillahi Wa Inna Ilaihi Rajioon.

His loss is deeply felt by his family, friends, and the wider Rohingya community. May Allah (SWT), the Most Merciful, forgive his shortcomings, accept his good deeds, and grant him the highest rank in Jannatul Firdaus.

In this moment of grief, we pray that Allah grants sabr, strength, and peace to his family and loved ones. RHI humbly requests the Rohingya community to remember him in your du‘as and to stand beside and support his family during this painful time.

📢 RHI Statement | Accountability Must Be Equal

The latest UK Government Country Policy and Information Note (January 2026) confirms what Rohingya communities have long endured: systematic and ongoing persecution in Myanmar. Rohingya people remain denied citizenship, freedom of movement, education, healthcare, livelihoods, and the right to live with dignity.

Importantly, the UK has clearly acknowledged that heinous crimes and serious human rights violations against Rohingya are being committed by both the Myanmar military junta and non-state armed groups, including the Arakan Army.

For years, the junta has carried out mass violence and institutionalized discrimination against Rohingya. Today, the situation has worsened as Rohingya civilians in northern Rakhine State are also facing killings, abductions, forced recruitment, movement restrictions, and intimidation by the Arakan Army.

Rohingya communities are trapped between multiple perpetrators — stateless, unprotected, and denied a safe place to live in dignity.

Justice cannot be selective.
Accountability must apply to all perpetrators — state or non-state.

✊ Rohingya lives matter
✊ Impunity must end
✊ Protection and justice are long overdue

📢 Justice for the Rohingya | ICJ Hearing Begins

Today marks a historic and critical moment for the Rohingya people and for international justice.

The International Court of Justice (ICJ) has opened its first full hearing in more than a decade in the case of The Gambia v. Myanmar, examining Myanmar’s responsibility for genocide against the Rohingya.

For decades, the Rohingya have faced systematic persecution, mass killings, forced displacement, and denial of citizenship simply because of who we are. This case is not only about Myanmar’s crimes—it is about whether international law truly protects the most persecuted communities in the world.

🕊️ Rohingya Humanity Information (RHI) firmly believes:

The ICJ should find that Myanmar committed genocide against the Rohingya.

Justice must center Rohingya survivors’ voices and dignity.

States must support the ICJ and ensure full compliance with its final judgment.

Genocide must have consequences. Accountability must be real. Justice must not be delayed any longer.

The world is watching. History will remember who stood for justice—and who remained silent.

✊🏽 Justice for Rohingya. Accountability for Myanmar.
