Workshop on Peace-building, Leadership, Gender Equality, Human Trafficking, and Community Development.

In a community where both men and women contribute, the community grows with a common goal: working for the betterment of the coming for tomorrow, and the next generation can explore commitment and resilience in the community, and they can also learn and contribute simply to make the community more sustainable and dedicated.

Rohingya women and men should come forward to contribute to inclusive leadership and work together on community development, find out the root causes of the problems, and find proper and practical solutions. To make the Rohingya community a sustainable society, we need to work together to reduce gender inequalities and gender discrimination.

Peacebuilding begins in a community, which means promoting a respectful environment, giving the same hope rather than prioritizing gender, background, or ability to contribute

On the 28th of August, AYI held a workshop on PEACE-BUILDING, LEADERSHIP, GENDER EQUALITY, AND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT Workshop.

In this workshop, we discussed the importance of peacebuilding, the impact of inclusive leadership, advancing gender equality, and working together to eliminate dowry from the Rohingya community. During the workshop, teachers, community leaders, Majahis, women, Iman, the elderly, and youth shared their perspectives, understanding, and support to stop these pressures in the Rohingya community.

In Cox's Bazar, human trafficking is one of the most challenging and terrifying aspects for Rohingya genocide survivors, and we also explored how we can prevent them happening in the Rohingya camps. From this workshop, we found that one root cause behind human trafficking is the impact of dowry; many girls' families are struggling to get their daughters married due to the demand for dowry and parents' choices, a perilous journey for them to send their daughters to Malaysia by boat.

Furthermore, conflicts and misunderstandings are happening every day in the Rohingya camps because different regional people of Arakan are living in different camps and blocks; they do not understand each other, and in these situations, a peace-building approach is very important. AYI is playing this role to bring all groups of people into peaceful dialogue, sessions, and workshops.

AYI is committed to delivering this humanitarian support to the people surviving in Cox's Bazar Rohingya Refugee Camps. AYI is grateful for the continued support from the Rohingya community; their support encourages us to move forward with our mission to strengthen the Rohingya community.

On 25th of August, Rohingya Genocide Remembrance Day.

25th August is one of the darkest chapters in the history of the Rohingya. In 2017, due to the Myanmar military's brutal crackdown, the Rohingya lost countless people and witnessed the cruelties against Rohingya sisters and mothers. Rohingya sisters and mothers lost their dignity; mothers lost their babies, and due to their constant oppression, more than 1 million Rohingya were forced to leave their homeland to save their lives and dignity from the hands of the genocidal government of Myanmar.

Today, our remembrance is not only about suffering, but it is also about who we are, what happened to the Rohingya, and why justice matters amid all these inhumane cruelties. We remember the victims and stand with the survivors, those who lost their lives tragically, and we will remember them forever. We will keep fighting for them until fair justice is served and held accountable.

We are always grateful to Bangladesh and its people for their generosity and for giving us refuge during our difficult situations. We will never forget your favor.

It's been 9 years; we have been waiting and calling on the world to solve the Rohingya crisis and serve justice, but we only see their failure and false promises. Today, we are here not to build another false promise from them, but also we are here to call on all the Rohingya people to raise a voice for your community's sustainability, rights, dignity, and to ensure safe and voluntary repatriation back to Myanmar.

!

Today, we are not just celebrating the day. Still, we are encouraging the youth to become future leaders, innovators, change makers, community volunteers, and agents of community voluntarism, especially the youth who are growing up with the firsthand experience of refuge, displacement, and uncertainty, and still holding resilience and hope, delivering sustainable change within their community.

The resilience of refugee youths is inspiring, and their actions support sustainable development within their society. Likewise, many Rohingya youths are fighting to build a better future for their community in Cox's Bazar, but they are always victims of barriers, restrictions, and complicated pathways. Many are leaving their community action because they always encounter funding issues and harsh realities for refugees.

The Rohingya youths are future builders, community leaders, and active forces, but what they most face is limited opportunities for leadership and advocacy. What they need is an opportunity to lead and work!

WE ARE FIGHTING FOR SUSTAINABLE CHANGES BEYOND ROHINGYA SOCIETY.

Meet Maung Hla AYI Representative in Malaysia.

He is a Rohingya poet, aspiring author, journalist, and humanitarian advocate whose work is deeply rooted in the lived realities of displacement, resilience, and the pursuit of justice. Born into a community that has endured decades of persecution in Myanmar, he has witnessed the profound consequences of statelessness, forced displacement, and the denial of fundamental human rights. Rather than allowing these experiences to silence him, he has chosen to transform them into stories that bear witness and inspire hope.

His poetry and writing explore themes of identity, exile, belonging, resilience, and human dignity. Every poem he writes carries the memories of Rohingya people, the dreams of children deprived of opportunity, and the unwavering hope for peace and justice. He aspires to use literature not only as a form of artistic expression but also as a bridge between communities, fostering understanding and advocating for the rights of refugees and other marginalized people.

He will play a crucial role in Malaysia on behalf of the AYI and represent the AYI in the context of AYI activities at the event and conference. He will advocate for the Rohingya community in Malaysia through strategic and organized ways which will help our community become more aware and guide them towards positivity and wellness.

Meet Mohammad Haikel, AYI Representative in Malaysia

Mohammad Haikel is an emerging poet and lifelong learner. He writes poems regarding peace, justice, love, humanity, and so forth.
Through poetry, he expresses the prolonged sufferings of his Rohingya community to make the world aware of.
For him, poetry is more than just a mode of expression, it is a bulwark against the erasure of his history, identity, and ethnicity.

He co-authored different books and joined different anthologies including the books entitled "Attraction of Love" and " Painful Love " way back in 2022.
He was distinguished as a Global Poet Award 2024 and 2025 by the World Poetic Fraternity. He was also recognized in the International Poetry group as the Best Young Poet Award in 2023.

Through his participation in AYI, he will hold an imperative role to work on behalf of AYI in Malaysia, and he will represent the voice of the Rohingya through effective ways in the events and conferences in Malaysia.

One thing to know: WILL YOU BE ONE OF THEM❓

20/06/2026

Today, on World Refugee Day, AYI stands in solidarity with all refugees around the world on behalf of the Rohingya community. Our voices are not just a message but also a living experience of refugees; we truly understand the meaning of becoming refugees in exile after losing every sense of belonging and ownership.

Leaving our homeland due to forced displacement and becoming familiar with a new environment is never easy and it's like rebuilding a new life from uncertainty, surviving with the burden of emotions and memories of the displacement where holding hope for a better future is extremely hard. Although refugees carry the pain of persecution, brutalities, and violence, they never think of giving up , they are fighting despite all the hardships and uncertainty of their future.

After all the struggles and challenges, the resilience of refugees is an inspiration, refugee youths from the Rohingya refugee camps are advocating, raising awareness, and building hope within the Rohingya people, despite the limitations of opportunities to advocate and advance their skills. Today, we are not just honouring World Refugee Day, but also we are calling on the global community to ensure dignity, safety, future, and rights of refugees and displaced people.

Refugee youths are not just survivors but also they are future builders, community driving forces, leaders, innovators, and Change-Makers, they are just lacking opportunities to prove and contribute.

We call on everyone to show compassion, humanity, protection, and lasting peace for refugees across the world.
