On the crowded streets of Dhaka, rickshaw pullers wrap a red-and-white gamchha across their faces, not as fashion, but as survival.

This handwoven masterpiece has carried sweat from the green fields to the choking traffic. It is a humble treasure that replaces air purifiers and fancy masks that they can never afford. Yet behind those red-white strips, every breath still carries dust, fumes, and toxic gases he cannot see. What if that same piece could fight back against the pollution?

This is the concept of our Shuddho Gamcha (শুদ্ধ গামছা). This low-cost wearable will passively purify the air using sunlight-activated nanocoatings without electricity, batteries, or maintenance in Bangladesh and most South Asia.

To make this incredible, tightly twisted red and white colored threads will be woven in a traditional check pattern on a wooden handloom. After completing the weaving, we will wash the fabric to remove starches, extra fibers, and oils, then dip it in mild detergent and warm water to remove any extra stains. Then, a dilute alkali or plasma treatment will increase surface roughness and hydrophilicity to improve nanomaterial bonding. Then the cloth will be air-dried in a dust-free area.

Afterward, we need to make a nanocoating solution with titanium dioxide (TiO₂) to break down pollutants and porous Metal Organic Frameworks (MOFs) for gas adsorption and improving light response. Research shows that combinations like TiO₂-rGO (reduced graphene oxide) or TiO₂-MOF composites dramatically raise pollutant degradation rates by enabling better charge transfer and pollutant adsorption. We can dope TiO₂ with nitrogen, carbon, or silver to extend activity into visible light.
Then, the mix will be carried in water or ethanol with a small binder for wash resistance. Then, we will dip the gamchha in the nanocoating solution 2-3 times for better coverage. Then, we will dry it with gentle heat at 100-120 °C for 5-10 minutes or sun-dry it. A light mechanical tumbling will be applied to restore softness. The gamcha will be tested for durability via multiple washes, photocatalytic performance, and breathability to ensure high airflow. It will work best under sunlight or bright indoor light! Some cautious? Wash gently with mild detergent, avoiding bleach.

With that, it'll be ready to deliver our heartfelt gamcha from the hands of our weavers to the hands of our people!

Beneath, this image showcases, our Shuddho Gamcha, which has been upgraded with TiO₂/MOF nanocoatings.
When polluted air (like PM2.5 smoke) touches the fabric, the nanoparticles break down harmful gases and trap pollutants, releasing cleaner air!

What if you could wear a tiny forest that absorbs around 5 kg of carbon dioxide annually?
Showcasing a three-layered algae-based wearable that captures carbon dioxide. About layering, the outer portion would be made by recycled PET or Potonic Silk, and that would be UV transparent. The middle core would be algae-infused hydrogel, which captures CO2. And lastly, the inner portion would be a breathable base made by organic cotton or tencel blend, which prevents hydrogel contact with skin. For algae selection, we must select some photosynthetic algae (Chlorella vulgaris) for high carbon dioxide uptake. Using 3D printers, hydrogel-algae slurry would be layered onto the base fabric. For cutting and assembly, laser-cut fabrics have to be joined with conductive thread. Then, micro-sensors would be integrated to track algae health and alert the user via an app when algae need light, water or Carbon dioxide. Through the app, users can see algae viability like '40% remains good 10 more wears!'

Now, here comes the most iconic part - Washing! No detergent, no dryer. Cause both kill the algae! It has to be rinsed with cold water or biodegradable algae-safe cleaners. After wearing, it has to recharge in indirect sunlight for 1 to 2 hours weekly. And after 1 to 2 years, the user can compost the shirt, as algae and fabric break down naturally or can be used for biofuel. Let's actively heal our planet from 'polluter fashion'.

Yes. In our agricultural country, many farmers can’t afford to buy even two sets of clothes a year. Often, they rely on a single Panjabi bought for Eid-ul-Adha, wearing it until it wears out. So we asked ourselves, why can't that one Panjabi adapt to both heat and cold? Why can't we design comfort for those who feed the nation?

Introducing our heartfelt idea, an innovative three-layered Climate Responsive Panjabi, designed to embrace you with comfort through both scorching summers and chilly winters. Think of it as the fabric version of the “Everything at Once” song, blending warmth, coolness, tradition, and all in one!

The Punjabi's outer layer will be traditional, using organic cotton, and here we will use thermochromic dye that changes color with heat to show when cooling is activated.

The middle portion will be adorned with heat-absorbing capsules (PCMs) that melt when the customer feels hot and harden when cold. And, Silver-coated stretchy threads will spread body heat evenly. For airflow and heat release, small laser-cut hexagonal vents will be included, with the openings possibly placed on the outer layer.

Lastly, for the Inner layer, bamboo fiber will be used to pull sweat away, and removable fleece liners will snap in for winter and out for summer.

Here AI's role to make this punjabi,
ML: Chooses fabrics & ventilation based on weather.
•GANs: Amalgamation of tradition with function.
•PINNs: Predicts fabric behavior.
•CV: Reduces fabric waste.
•K-means: Customizes for regions. Like : Norway should get heated liners, and Kerala should get extra vents!

This one Panjabi adapts to all seasons and comes with high-quality fabrics and eco-friendly materials reducing waste. No microplastics, wash less, protecting rivers from toxic dyes.

Our grandmother stitched stories with thread as the rain poured outside in monsoon.
We sat curled up beside her, listening to 'Thakurmar Jhuli' and 'Gopal Bhar' stealing bites of khichuri between giggles and gasps!

Now, guess what? We’re presenting our idea of traditional style Nakshi Kantha, digitally designed or embroidered with hidden AR markers, unlocks interactive grandmother stories when scanned with a phone or tablet. Using the provided app, the AR experience will unveil grandmother’s voice, her lullabies, old family stories, and the songs according to the design, bringing the stories to life.

Have a glance at the step by step process of enhancing Nakshi Kantha!

1. From Cloth to Code (Data Collection & Preprocessing):
Every old Nakshi Kantha will tell a story.
To preserve that story, high-resolution images will be captured using digital scanners and DSLR cameras. These images will be labeled by stitch type, motif category, region and color palette and we will use edge detection, denoising and segmentation techniques like OpenCV’s contour extraction for better clarity.

2. Letting AI Learn the Language of Embroidery:
Here, we will feature two major AI models for this process.

1.GANs (Generative Adversarial Networks):
One neural net will generate patterns. Another critique. Over thousands of rounds, the generator will learn to create near authentic Nakshi style motifs.
Architecture: CNN-based generator and discriminator using PyTorch or TensorFlow.

2. Diffusion Models (like those used in DALL·E):
Starting with noise, It will gradually predict pixels to reconstruct a pattern. Think of it as carving a design from digital fog. It will work just like today's photo remasters. These models will be trained on the digitized Kantha dataset, learning not just shapes but rhythm, density, and the emotional weight of our traditional Nakshi Kantha.

3. From Pixels to Fabric (Computer Aided Embroidery) :
AI-generated motifs will be converted into vector embroidery files (.DST or .PES) using CAD tools like Wilcom or Ink or Stitch. The coolest part is that vector embodiment can be resized infinitely without losing any quality.
For stitching:
Computerized embroidery machines use servo controlled multineedles will stitch the digital map thread by thread.

4. AR: The Katha Comes Alive
Each cloth would embed a QR (This won't be any normal QR, this QR will be merged into our Kantha's design) or NFC tag (plan to insert it in our thread). Using provided apps or VR, you can go through your memories or relive a wedding unfold. You can feel your loved one in your clothes. Isn't that awesome?
All powered by 3D asset overlays will be trained on the original story’s data.

This will add a computational storytelling layer on top of the static thread, a new sensory dimension to traditional motifs.

These aren't just threads and patterns, are they? They hold the stories, the wedding card you unfolded in tears, or even the echoes of laughter and love. Let's keep them close, not just to wear, but as a touchstone. Something that whispers of the past, a memory you can hold. Whenever you need a little piece of that feeling, it will be right there beside you.
