Behind its establishment lies a multitude of narratives, all with a shared purpose: to advocate for the oppressed. We believe that, drawing from the lessons of past popular uprisings, every uprising in Bangladesh leaves behind traces of "fascism." Even with a change in government, the underlying fascist structures often remain intact. Time and again, students rise against injustice and systemic op
pression, unafraid to make the ultimate sacrifice. With unwavering courage, they continue to fight. We believe that this struggle necessitates a unified platform where students can voice their concerns about the erosion of democratic rights, freedom of expression, and any actions against injustice, thus preserving the spirit of popular uprisings. This organization is built on the commitment of dedicated students who prioritize their identity as "students" above any specific political affiliation or ideology. It is the result of a collective effort by conscious individuals determined to raise their voices against wrongdoing. We envision a secular and equitable Bangladesh, a society where everyone stands for justice and speaks out against injustice. From this vision, the Student Platform Against Oppression (SPAO) has begun its journey. Important Questions about SPAO:
(a) Can individuals with any ideology or political affiliations join SPAO?
-Yes, individuals are welcome, but they must prioritize their identity as “students” above their personal beliefs and affiliations. SPAO cannot be used as a platform to promote individual political ideologies. However, those with extremist views, communal biases, or who harbor hatred against women and sexual minorities (such as the hijra community) will not be tolerated. (b) Who founded SPAO?
-SPAO was established by politically aware students involved in the July uprising. Detailed information about the founders will be published later in the “Organizational Structure and Circular.”
(c) What is the scope of SPAO's activities?
-Currently, the organization focuses its efforts in the Chittagong area. (d) What are SPAO's goals and objectives?
- To consistently raise awareness about various injustices occurring in Chittagong.
- To advocate against incidents of harassment, violence, and r**e in the region.
- To promote the rights of the hijra community in Chittagong.
- To actively oppose mob lynching incidents in the area. In conclusion, If you recognize the importance of fostering positive change in society as an engaged citizen, we invite you to join SPAO. Together, we can amplify our voices for justice and work towards a better future.
