নগর পরিকল্পনাবিদ প্রকৌশলী এম আলী আশরাফ ১৯৭৬ সালে তৎকালীন চট্টগ্রাম ইঞ্জিনিয়ারিং কলেজ হতে সিভিল ইঞ্জিনিয়ারিং বিষয়ে স্নাতক ডিগ্রি অর্জন করেন এবং ১৯৮৪ সালে যুক্তরাষ্ট্রের ক্যানসাস স্টেইট ইউনিভার্সিটি হতে নগর এবং অঞ্চল পরিকল্পনায় স্নাতকোত্তর ডিগ্রি অর্জন করেন। তিনি চট্টগ্রাম প্রকৌশল ও প্রযুক্তি বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় এবং চট্টগ্রাম বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের পিঅ্যান্ডডি এর বিশেষজ্ঞ সদস্য হিসেবে দায়িত্ব পালন করেন।
অধ্যাপক প্রকৌশলী আলী আশরাফ ২০১৬ সালের ৭ আগস্ট সাউদার্ন ইউনিভার্সিটি বাংলাদেশ এর উপ-উপাচার্য হিসেবে দায়িত্ব গ্রহণ করেন। একই সাথে তিনি ২০১৪ সাল থেকে সিভিল ইঞ্জিনিয়ারিং বিভাগের প্রধান হিসেবে দায়িত্ব পালন করেছিলেন।
তিনি চট্টগ্রাম ইঞ্জিনিয়ার্স ইন্সটিটিউটের সাবেক সভাপতি ও রোটারি সেন্টারের আজীবন সদস্যসহ বিভিন্ন সংগঠনের সাথে জড়িত ছিলেন।

সাউদার্ন ইউনিভার্সিটি বাংলাদেশ এর পুরকৌশল বিভাগের অন্যতম স্বপ্নদ্রষ্টা এবং পথপ্রদর্শক প্রকৌশলী এম. আলী আশরাফ স্যারের ৫ম মৃত্যুবার্ষিকীতে গভীর শ্রদ্ধাঞ্জলী।

The Department of Civil Engineering successfully organised “Freshers’ Reception and Constructive Adda 2.0”, hosted by the Civil Engineering Career Club, as a programme to warmly welcome the newly admitted freshers and to create a meaningful get-together for seniors, juniors, and alumni.

The event provided a vibrant platform for interaction and bonding across different batches. Interactive gaming segments for both teachers and students, engaging cultural performances, and shared moments throughout the programme created an atmosphere of enthusiasm and enjoyment.
