Our Story
FIRST OF ALL - WHAT IS ÍNDIGENOUS DEMOCRACY'' - YOU MAY ASK? WELL BASICALLY IT IS THE RULE BY PERSUASION AND CONSENSUS - WHICH IS THE OPPOSITE OF WESTERN STYLE -''MAJORITY RULE BY COERCION'' - THAT EXISTS IN THE WORLD.
There are THREE primary focus areas of the Indigenous Democracy Defence Organization (IDDO):
#1 - Assisting with the OUTFLOW of information.
We help to spread the word of human rights abuses of indigenous persons and peoples in the local, regional, and International media - which we call 'The Court of Public Opinion'; so that these abuses become forever lodged in the Global public record for posterity in the long term, and hopefully spur rectifying/remedial reactions in the short term.
#2 - Assisting with the INFLOW of information, by letting Indigenous peoples know of the SUPERIOR level of International Legal Rights they are entitled to - because most are only aware of the INFERIOR level of Legal Rights that National Laws provide to them.
#3 - By assisting in EMERGENCY cases in ways that are legal by International laws and conventions - but are currently beyond the scope of every other NGO or International Governmental body currently formally established to deal with such incidents.
For example, the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) is ready to establish refugee camps for persons fleeing war and persecution, and may assist in finding asylum in 3rd countries for such victims, but the UNHRC is NOT going to covertly deliver a Satellite phone to a leader of an indigenous people trapped behind enemy lines in a conflict zone - who's access to the outside world has been severed by the invading army (just for example) ....however the IDDO WOULD undertake such an action without a second thought.
To put it in a nutshell, the IDDO was created to DEFEND indigenous peoples primarily via the Court of Public Opinion - but we are NOT part of ANY Political Nation State's agenda; because we cannot trust any government that exercises an illegal authority over us in a Colonial or Neo-Colonial manner, we need to protect our own whenever and wherever possible, in whatever manner is justifiable according to International Law, and most needed according to the times and circumstances of the reality on the ground - on location in the crisis area.
