It began with a simple but important goal: to strengthen Barbados’ ability to understand and protect the cetaceans (i.e., marine mammals such as whales, dolphins, and porpoises) that move through our waters.
On 25 August 2026, Blue Sustainable Caribbean Group Inc., in collaboration with the Barbados Fisheries Division, brought local stakeholders together for a capacity-building workshop on cetacean monitoring.

In a previous post, we introduced the Barbados 4-H Foundation’s Train-the-Trainer Workshop for the Climate Change Project on Rainfall Observation (CCPRO). Here is a look at what else unfolded during that same session.
Through its support of the Barbados 4-H Foundation, the BESF is helping to turn hands-on learning into stronger community-based climate resilience across Barbados. Follow the BESF to see how our grantees are turning environmental knowledge into meaningful action across Barbados.

We cannot protect what we do not fully understand.
Whales, dolphins and other cetaceans are an important part of Barbados’ marine environment. Learning more about the species found in our waters starts with better monitoring, reliable data acquisition, and local people who have the skills to carry this work forward.
With support from the BESF, this project is helping to build local expertise and strengthen cetacean research and monitoring in Barbados.
Watch the video to hear from the project lead and participants about the work being done and what they hope to achieve.
Share this post and follow the BESF as we continue supporting the people and projects working to protect Barbados’ natural environment.

Building knowledge. Strengthening capacity. Supporting climate resilience.
Through the Climate Change Project on Rainfall Observation (CCPRO), the Barbados 4-H Foundation is equipping educators and stakeholders with practical skills in weather-station assembly, rainfall monitoring and data collection.
The Train-the-Trainers Workshop combines hands-on learning with an introduction to 3D printing, enabling participants to help construct and operate functional weather stations. These skills will support greater climate awareness and strengthen local rainfall-observation efforts across Barbados.
As a grantee of the Barbados Environmental Sustainability Fund, the Barbados 4-H Foundation is helping to turn environmental education into practical action.
Follow the BESF as we highlight the progress and impact of our grantees.
