🤔 Got questions about supporting an autistic child at home or in the classroom? You are not alone.
When registering for our upcoming "Understanding Autism" session, we asked community members what they wanted to learn most. Here are the top questions and challenges on everyone's minds—and exactly what our presenter, Counselling Psychologist Shaneka Millar-Kellman, will be breaking down on September 15th:

🌟 THANK YOU FOR MAKING OUR FIRST RECHARGE A SUCCESS! 🌟

Our first RECHARGE Parent Respite Session was a success, and we are incredibly grateful to everyone who helped bring it together. 💙

A special thank you to our Play Therapist, whose engaging activities, patience and care helped create a positive experience for our children.

To our wonderful volunteers — thank you for showing up, giving your time and supporting our children and families throughout the session.

To our parents and caregivers — thank you for trusting us, participating and allowing us to learn alongside you. Your feedback and experiences will help us shape RECHARGE into a programme that genuinely responds to the needs of families.

We also extend our appreciation to the Community Development Department for facilitating access to the community centre and supporting the use of community spaces for initiatives that serve families.

Most importantly, our children were able to enjoy a space where they could play, explore and simply be themselves. 🌟

Our first RECHARGE gave us the opportunity to learn, observe and see this vision beginning to take shape.

💙⭐ RECHARGE — Our First Session

Sometimes support looks like something very simple:

A child having space to move.
A child choosing how they want to play.
A parent being able to stay nearby or relax.
A family knowing they don't have to explain or apologise.

Our first Recharge session gave children space for sensory play, creativity, movement and connection — at their own pace.

And for their parents and caregivers, it offered something just as important: a welcoming environment where their children could simply be themselves without judgement.

We learned. We played. We made a little mess. 😊 And most importantly, we saw why spaces like this matter.

A heartfelt thank you to the parents and caregivers who trusted us with this first step, and to our volunteers and play therapist who gave their time, patience and energy to help make the session a success.

This was our first Recharge.

We're learning. We're building. And we're just getting started. 💙⭐

🌟 PARENT RECHARGE DAY — APPLICATIONS STILL OPEN! 🌟

Parents and caregivers of autistic children deserve time to breathe, rest, run an errand, or simply recharge.

Evening Stars Barbados is preparing our FREE Parent Recharge Day Respite Support Pilot, offering participating children a safe, structured and supportive afternoon including play therapy and supervised craft activities.

💙 There is NO COST to participating families.

For safety, each child must bring their own packed snack and water. No food will be provided by ESB.
📅 Applications close: August 12
👨‍👩‍👧 Parent interviews: August 13 & 14
⚠️ Participation is subject to screening and programme suitability.
