Today, on International Day of Play, we celebrate the power of play to help children learn, grow and thrive.

This year's theme, Protect play, protect childhood, reminds us that every child deserves safe spaces to play, explore their creativity and build the skills they need for life.

Let's work together to protect every child's right to play.

For many young people, receiving a diploma is a milestone marked by caps, gowns and celebration. For 33 children on the move in Trinidad and Tobago, the journey looked a little different.

Despite language barriers, displacement and challenges accessing education, these young people remained committed to learning through the UNICEF and EU Civil Protection & Humanitarian Aid supported DAWERE online education platform. Today, they are taking an important step towards adulthood with new opportunities to pursue further education, training and employment.

Some graduates are already working. Others have moved beyond the shores of Trinidad and Tobago, joining the celebration virtually as proud parents collected certificates on their behalf.

"I am very happy today because I finally got my diploma," said Jesus Mata, originally from Anaco, Venezuela. "The platform is a really good platform. Thanks to UNICEF too for giving me this opportunity. Right now I am hoping to go back to Venezuela to open some kind of business because I have finished my course in air conditioning and I am a certified technician."

Every child deserves the opportunity to learn, grow and build a future, regardless of where they are.

Congratulations to all 33 graduates and their families.

Nearly three in four young people in Barbados say they lack practical information on how to access opportunities in the green economy.

That was one of the findings highlighted today as UNICEF launched a new study on young people's knowledge, attitudes and practices related to climate change and the green and circular economies in the Eastern Caribbean.

Presented on World Environment Day, the study explores how young people in Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Dominica and Saint Lucia understand climate change, engage with environmental issues and view opportunities in emerging green sectors.

The launch brought together representatives from UNICEF, the United Nations, CARICOM, Government, civil society and young climate advocates to discuss how the region can better equip young people with the information, skills and opportunities needed to participate in climate action and sustainable development.

Young people are ready to contribute. The challenge now is ensuring they have meaningful pathways to do so.
