7.AAA kongres okupio je stručnjake, istraživače, zdravstvene radnike i predstavnike pacijenata iz brojnih zemalja, stvarajući prostor za razmjenu znanja, iskustava i novih ideja.

Ponosni smo na sve što je zajedno ostvareno i zahvalni svima koji su svojim doprinosom bili dio ovog važnog međunarodnog događaja u Sarajevu.

The final day of the Congress opened with discussions on the clinical management of allergic diseases, followed by sessions exploring digital innovation and the patient perspective in healthcare.

The morning programme featured Prof Mirjana Turkalj on the role of biological drugs in the prevention of food allergies, Dr Dermot Ryan on differentiating allergic from non-allergic rhinitis, and Prof Marina Atanasković on desensitization in drug allergy in children and its role in improving treatment safety.

The programme then continued with a session dedicated to digital and patient-centred approaches in healthcare. Dr Matea Deliu presented the potential of AI-powered digital tools to support clinical workflows and improve patient outcomes, while Vildana Mujkić shared the patient perspective and the importance of patient engagement in shaping modern healthcare services.

The afternoon programme of the second day focused on the prevention of allergic diseases, immunotherapy, epidemiology, and research methodology.

Chaired by Prof Mirjana Turkalj, the session featured Dr Nives Pustišek on the role of mental health in the secondary prevention of atopic dermatitis, Prof Mirjana Turkalj on whether allergen immunotherapy can prevent the development of allergic diseases, and Prof Mohamed Shamji, who explored the molecular and cellular pathways underlying successful allergen immunotherapy.

The programme then continued with lectures by Prof Neil Pearce on lessons from international comparisons of asthma and other non-communicable diseases, and Prof Philipp Latzin on the role of bacterial lysates in preventing recurrent respiratory infections.

The day concluded with a statistics workshop led by Dr Darije Čustović, focusing on applied methods in asthma and allergy research.

The second day of the Congress continued with the EAACI Session, chaired by Prof Mohamed Shamji, bringing together perspectives from clinical practice, translational research, and emerging technologies.

Prof Maria Torres presented on risk stratification in drug allergy, followed by Prof Mohamed Shamji, who discussed the connection between basic science, biomarkers, and artificial intelligence. The session concluded with Prof Ingrid Terreehorst and her lecture on eosinophilic esophagitis and immunotherapy.

This was followed by Session 8: Keynote Lecture – Food Allergy, chaired by Prof Adnan Čustović, featuring Prof Gideon Lack and his presentation on the prevention of food allergy.

Day 2 began with a session dedicated to improving care pathways and strengthening coordination across healthcare services for patients with allergic and respiratory diseases.

Chaired by Dr Amila Hadžimuratović, the session opened with Dr Dermot Ryan, who explored the patient journey through the healthcare system and the challenges of navigating care for allergic and respiratory conditions.

Dr Matea Deliu followed with a presentation on integrating virtual and community-based care to provide more holistic and patient-centred services.

The session concluded with Prof Marina Atanasković, who addressed the vaccination of children with known allergies to vaccine components, highlighting current clinical approaches and recommendations.

The afternoon programme of Day 1 continued with sessions focused on chronic respiratory disease, drug allergy, environmental health, and life-course epidemiology, with contributions from leading international experts.

Session 3: Keynote Lecture 1 – COPD, chaired by Dr Dermot Ryan, featured Prof Wisia Wedzicha, who delivered a lecture on COPD exacerbations, prevention strategies, and the role of biologics, followed by discussion and Q&A.

This was followed by Session 4: EAACI session, chaired by Prof Maria Torres, with presentations by Prof Maria Torres on diagnostic certainty in drug allergy, Prof Adnan Čustović on environmental control in primary asthma prevention, and Prof Ingrid Terreehorst on cross-reactivity in beta-lactam allergy and its clinical implications.

The day concluded with Session 5: Life-course Epidemiology, chaired by Prof Neil Pearce, where Prof Deborah Lawlor reflected on how exposures across different stages of life, from gestation to older age, shape long-term health outcomes.

The first session of today’s programme, Chronic Obstructive Lung Diseases through life-course, chaired by Prof Adnan Čustović, featured Prof Wisia Wedzicha with a lecture on early COPD and insights from the BEACON cohort.

This was followed by the second session, Food Allergy, chaired by Vildana Begić Mujkić, which included Prof Paul Turner on eosinophilic oesophagitis, Prof Gideon Lack on the dual exposure hypothesis, and Prof Adnan Čustović on AI in diagnosing and treating food allergy and anaphylaxis.

Pre-congress workshops in Sarajevo brought together participants for focused discussions on epidemiology, food allergy, and anaphylaxis ahead of the 7th International AAA Congress scientific programme.

🔬 Prof Deborah Lawlor and Prof Neil Pearce shared valuable perspectives on modern epidemiological research methods, while Dr Džan Ahmed Jesenković explored the historical development of epidemiology in the Balkans.

🍽️ The food allergy workshop brought practical clinical insights from Prof Paul Turner and research perspectives from Dr Amila Hadžimuratović, followed by dynamic discussion with participants.

An excellent introduction to three days of scientific exchange and interdisciplinary dialogue.
