Cats of Mostar

Cats of Mostar Registered non-profit prioritizing TNR to humanely and sustainably care for Mostar’s cats. Cats of Mostar is a registered U.S.

non-profit organization; we are awaiting approval for 501(c)(3) status after which we will open the organization for official donations in support of our work. Additional resources will be secured through grants and similar funding opportunities. Financial resources will prioritize TNR activities (trap, neuter, and release) as we believe this is the most sustainable way forward in the care of our

community cats. The purpose of TNR is to control the stray animal population - increasingly, this approach has become accepted worldwide. Implementing TNR in Mostar will improve the health of our cat colonies and reduce the suffering of cats who do not have access to basic care, shelter, and medical treatment. It may not be impossible to "save them all," but TNR remains the most proven manner to humanely and efficiently care for our community cats. Secondary to TNR and as our capacity grows, we do hope that we can find safe, permanent homes for cats that will thrive in or require an indoor or controlled environment. As a registered non-profit, our goal is also to remain transparent and honest in all of our interactions. If you have questions or are interested in becoming involved in some way, please contact us! We will be more successful with the support and help of the local community who share our love, care, and concern for our feline friends and recognize our responsibility for addressing their health needs.

Do you recognize this sweet tuxedo girl? You should! Mace (pronounced Mats-a, a diminutive of the Bosnian word for cat) is a local fixture in Mostar’s Old Town area of Kujundziluk. Her image has also graced this feed more than once!

Mace has spent 9 years living on the streets of Mostar and it is now time to find her a comfortable, caring home for retirement! Mace has recently been diagnosed with FIV which makes it even more critical for her to find a home that can care for her and ensure she lives many more years to come. Ideally, Mace would live indoors, in a single cat household with plenty of love and kindness.

Mace is currently being cared for by her incredible foster family. She has adapted to domestic life quickly - she plays, enjoys her treats, and uses the litter box. She is spayed, chipped, and has received necessary vet care. The last month indoors with regularly meals, warmth, and supplements has strengthened her immune system and she is ready to find her forever home.

If you think you could be that forever home for Mace, please contact us. Serious inquiries only! Mace is a very precious community cat and she deserves the best!
