We would like to express our heartfelt appreciation to everyone who supported the Doing it for the animals fundraiser BBQ fundraiser today at the Zeehan football clubrooms and grounds.

The board of Animal Welfare Centre Inc. deserves special thanks for their permission and support in making this event a reality.

We are grateful to all attendees, volunteers, and participants, including those who assisted with setup and teardown, live performances, and our side market.

We hope that everyone had a wonderful day.

Our sponsors also deserve recognition for their invaluable support.

Although the weather was initially misty and drizzly, the stage proved to be a huge success, and we look forward to its return at future events.

We appreciate Chris Burton's expertise in ensuring the smooth operation of the sound system for our booked artists.

Blanket bans on pets in Tasmanian rental properties are over from today, with new laws giving tenants a legal right to request a pet and requiring landlords to justify any refusal through a tribunal.

The changes apply statewide, requiring landlords to respond within 14 days or have the request automatically approved.

Landlords can only refuse on reasonable grounds, such as damage or safety risks. Tenants remain responsible for any harm caused by pets.

The state government says the reform balances renter rights and property protections, while animal groups say it could reduce pet surrenders.

Just finished Intro to Mammals… now what?

For many new wildlife rehabilitators, the journey doesn’t really begin in the classroom — it begins afterwards.

The first enclosure.
The first mentor visit.
The first animal in care.
The moment you realise how much there still is to learn.

To help support that stage of the journey, Wildlife Network Tasmania hosts a monthly Graduate Catch-Up for people who have completed the Intro to Mammals workshop.

These informal Zoom sessions are a space to:

• Ask questions
• Share challenges
• Hear how others are navigating their first steps
• Connect with others in a similar position
• Learn from each other

There’s no pressure to speak, no expectations, and no judgement — just a supportive space for people walking the same path.

Whether you're feeling confident, unsure, excited, or a little stuck, you're very welcome to join.
