On our 12th anniversary of creating localised learning offerings together we are excited to bring you our first lounge-room fireside conversation about how we are applying some of the learnings from Helena Norberg-Hodge and Local Futures / Economics of Happiness into a localised learning model for improved happiness, wellbeing and health.

Thank you Helena for all your dedication and inspiration.

In this rich and reflective conversation recorded beside the winter fire on Bundjalung Country, Australia co-hosts and Directors of Luminous Youth Erica and Paul explore their application of localising education. Drawing inspiration from the work of Helena Norberg-Hodge and the film The Economics of Happiness, they reflect on how place-based culture, education, and story can nurture the well-being of our children, families, and communities in times of great change.

Speaking from lived experience—Erica as a mother and initiator of Luminous Youth, and Paul as an educator and mentor—they trace how globalised education has eroded our sense of place, and how re-rooting ourselves in local ecology, story, and seasonal rhythms can reignite joy, wonder, and community vitality. Woven throughout is an invitation to reclaim learning as a sacred, shared, and deeply personal act—alive with relevance, beauty, and ancestral remembering.

At Togethering yesterday, our clay wombats carried a message of connection for our young people. Just as a wombat, being a marsupial, grows from the safety of its mother’s pouch to explore the world alone, there comes a time when our human young begin to discover their own spaces - away from mother.

But here’s the magic of the story and song we shared: even as the wombat builds its own burrow and prepares itself for life away from its moth, it knows that independence doesn’t mean disconnection - for the power of the heart and loving connection can not be taken away.

This is the invisible thread—an unbreakable bond that lets love travel any distance, a gentle whisper of “I’m here,” even when you can’t see each other. Have you ever tried that? To replicate the feeling of a hug from someone, by going into your heart and using the power of imagination? It’s pretty powerful and beautiful stuff.

One of the many ways we use story and craft, to deepen connection, nurture resilience, and share life skills with our young. 🌱 💚

Today at Quest, our young culture-builders were enriched by the presence of Max, a skilled artisan who guided us through the ancestral craft of leatherworking. Max demonstrated the art of leather stamping and the process of tanning with vegetable tan, sharing his knowledge and skills with our young questers.

They are on their way to creating their own leather pouches, experiencing a hands-on connection to ancestral craftsmanship and practical artistry. This immersive activity not only honed their fine motor skills but also deepened their appreciation for traditional crafts.

Our teens experienced rich culture, deep integrity, and inspiring creativity today—thanks to the powerful contributions of , .lismore, and .

So grateful these young people get to immerse themselves in such a vibrant place. As we explore critical thinking together, what better local hub than this powerhouse of Indigenous brilliance to stir their curiosity around diversity, Indigeneity, ancient wisdom, and the harmful, one-dimensional narratives of colonial culture.

Here, they witness a much older, wiser story—boldly and beautifully alive.

Thank you, legends. We love what you’re weaving! 💚🙌✨

Grandmothers of a different kind. Holding us high as we weave togetherness with the landscapes we dwell within during our EcolSoul Learning programs.

May all children if just for a moment have the privilege to know how this type of grandmother holds them and loves them. May it be so.

COMIN' SOON!

Excited that we are almost ready to share the Luminous Youth podcast!

We’ve been busily working on behind the scenes over here connecting with visionaries we are inspired by as well as some Luminous Culture conversations with Erica and I.

We invite you to journey with us as we question what it is to embody our evolving humanity and feel embedded within place based culture in these times of change.

How can we restore these ways of deep connection from within our homes and family collectives to create a deeper sense of belonging and ecological intimacy.

We look forward to exploring this with you all through the lense of education, human potential , cultural revilitisation and parenting.
