Modern cars don't always need a key to start, just access to the right port. An OBD lock is a simple case that blocks that access. RACV recommends fitting one if your car has push-start ignition. Find out how safe your vehicle is and how to decrease the risk of theft by taking our online quiz: https://howsafeismyplace.com.au/vehicle/

Nearly half of all vehicle thefts in Victoria happen with no sign of forced entry - the car was simply left unlocked (Crime Statistics Agency Victoria). It's an easy habit to skip when you're "just running in for a minute", but that's exactly the window thieves are waiting for.

Get into the habit of locking up every time, even at home, even for a second.

It only takes a few seconds to stop, look and follow the signs. πŸš†

Rail crossings are shared by drivers, pedestrians and trains, and ignoring the rules can have serious consequences.

When you see flashing red lights, come to a complete stop. Stop before the boom gates and never queue across the tracks. Give Way and Stop signs are a given - follow them every time.

Take the extra few seconds.

Most thieves aren't looking for a challenge, they're looking for the easiest target. That's where "locking wheel nuts" can make a difference.

By replacing one standard wheel nut on each wheel with a locking wheel nut, you're adding an extra layer of security that's quick, affordable and easy to install.

Here's why they're worth considering:
πŸ”’ They require a unique key to remove, making it much harder for thieves to steal your wheels.
πŸš— They act as a strong deterrent, helping encourage opportunistic thieves to move on to an easier target.
πŸ› οΈ They can be fitted with basic tools, no need to book your car into a workshop.

No security measure is foolproof, but locking wheel nuts are a simple step that can help make your vehicle a less attractive target.

AusAlert is being tested at 2pm on 27 July.

AusAlerts are designed to get people's attention quickly during emergencies and help keep them safe.

However, for people who use safety devices, receiving an AusAlert may cause concern, as it could make those devices easier to locate, particularly if they are intended to remain hidden.

If you think it may not be safe for you, or someone you care about, to receive the national AusAlert test, take the following steps at least one hour before the test:

β–ͺ️ Turn your safety device off, or
β–ͺ️ Switch it to aeroplane mode (if available), and
β–ͺ️ Keep it off or in aeroplane mode for 24 hours.

Remember: You can still use Wi-Fi while your device is in aeroplane mode. If your device does not have aeroplane mode, turn it off instead.

For more information and resources, visit www.ausalert.gov.au/community-resources/staying-safe-ausalert

In an emergency, always call Triple Zero (000).
