From Community Voices to Community Action – The Heeyersu Journey.

On 26 October 2026, we proudly launched our Phase 2 Access to Justice Community Consultation Report, an important milestone in our community-led journey.

🌱 Phase 1 – Listening to Our Leaders: Over 70 community leaders and members came together to share their concerns and ideas.

🌱 Phase 2 – Listening to Our Community: We engaged with 14 Karen community and faith groups across Melbourne's West.

🌱 Phase 3 – Turning Voices into Action: Our findings have shaped four practical programs: Saturday Community Clinic, Youth Reconnecting, Elders and Leaders Visitation, and Community Capacity Building.

We didn't want another report sitting on a shelf. We wanted community voices to lead to real action.

A heartfelt thank you to our project partners Wyndham Community and Education Centre, Centre for Multicultural Youth, Department of Justice and Community Safety, Scanlon Foundation and AMES Australia, and Karuna Compassion in Action for auspicing and supporting this work.

We were honoured to welcome Deputy Mayor Jasmine Hill, John Lister MP, Andrea Davidson, Maria Dimopoulos and Louis Parry, alongside our partner panellists Dr Jennie Barrera, Carmel Guerra and Maria Tsopanis.

Most importantly, thank you to our 14 participating groups, project leads, volunteers, youth leaders and community connectors who made this journey possible.

Our community already has the strengths, knowledge and leadership. Together, we're creating opportunities to turn them into lasting change.

This is only the beginning.

🌿 Heeyersu at Our West, Our Future – Werribee Assembly

Heeyersu and members of the Karen community from Melbourne’s West came together for the first Our West, Our Future Werribee Assembly.

We were proud to see our very own Sheri serving as one of the Co-Chairs, helping lead the energy in the room and bring community voices to the centre of the conversation.

With more than 70 services and organisations and around 270 community members in attendance, the evening showed what is possible when communities, services and local leaders come together to listen, connect and act.

A huge congratulations and thank you to everyone who organised, supported, invited community members and helped make the Assembly possible.

Heeyersu looks forward to continuing to be part of the Our West Listen campaign and making sure the voices, experiences and priorities of our Karen community are part of the wider conversation about the future of Melbourne’s West.

Our community has a voice. Our community has solutions. And our community should be part of shaping what comes next.

Thank you to everyone involved, including Environment Victoria, Real Deal Geelong, local community alliances, services, organisations and community leaders across the West.

What a night to remember. ❤️

The Heeyersu Youth Reconnecting Program Graduation was a celebration of our young people, their courage, growth, resilience and the community that stood beside them throughout the journey.

Over 12 weeks, our young people came together through mentoring, physical activity, cultural connection, wellbeing, leadership, music, learning and conversations about the challenges they are facing.

The graduation brought together young people, parents, mentors, volunteers, community leaders and an incredible range of organisations and services who came to listen, celebrate and stand alongside our community.

To our young people — we are proud of you.

To our parents, mentors and volunteers — thank you for continuing to show up.

And to the services and organisations who attended — we hope this is the beginning of even stronger partnerships and action alongside our community.

The 12-week program may have finished, but the work continues.
