The NSW Treaty Commissioners are travelling across the state to sit down with Aboriginal communities and yarn about what Treaty could mean for us here in NSW.

They’ll be in Wellington on Wednesday 13th May at the WINS Community Centre from 10am to 12pm.

At each session, they’re asking two questions:
👉🏽 Do Aboriginal communities want a Treaty or another formal agreement-making process? And if so, what should this process look like?

Community members and stakeholders can:
Attend a face to face consultation

You don’t need to be an expert or come with a set opinion. Whether you choose to sit and listen, or share your story and ideas, your presence matters. These sessions are for Aboriginal communities only, Elders, young people, families, and community members are all welcome.

This is your opportunity to make sure our voices, hopes, and concerns help shape the path forward. ✨

Unless First Nations communities and groups are semi-ready to take hold of clean energy project opportunities “it’s easy for them to get bypassed”.

That’s Gavin Brown talking, one of the Directors of First Nations organisation Wambal Bila established to hold the Wellington Aboriginal community’s option for an equity stake in the $340 million Bulabul Battery project in NSW.

His advice?

Be up-to-date on timelines for what is being proposed in an area, and build community governance groups even before a development is proposed.

The Bulabul Battery project is one of 30 and counting First Nations clean energy partnerships in Australia with First Nations involvement, ownership and equity negotiated participation agreements.

Learn more about the Bulabul Battery project on our website, where you’ll also find Wambal Bila and AMPYR Australia’s project equity templates to demystify the equity partnership process and empower First Nations communities with knowledge.
