With the recent increase in fires, it’s not too late to revisit and review your bushfire plans.
If you’re up to date—awesome! But what about those around you who may be new to the area?
Remember, during large-scale incidents there won’t always be a truck available for every home. Volunteer numbers are limited, and fatigue is very real for your RFS crews.
So ask yourself:
👉 Is your property at risk?
👉 Is your property ready?
Here are some simple steps to help prepare your property:
• Reduce vegetation along access paths
• Mow your lawn regularly
• Remove excess flammable materials (dry grass, leaves, branches)
• Trim low-lying branches up to 2 metres from the ground
• Clear gutters and roofs of debris
• Display your house number clearly at the road or front gate
• Ensure there is adequate access for fire trucks
🚒 Can we fit through your gate if needed? (See photo below as a guide)
Take the time to revisit your plan, and consider signing up with your local RFS brigade to support the volunteers protecting your community.
🔥 Fire Danger Ratings give clear actions you can take. The higher the rating, the more dangerous the conditions.
These ratings are based on:
☀️ Weather (temperature, humidity, wind)
🌿 Vegetation type and how dry it is
Fire behaviour is then modelled based on these conditions.
If you need help with fire safety planning, reach out to us or your local brigade.
🚨 If you see smoke, don’t wait—call 000 (Triple Zero). Every second counts.
