Meet Jason Dadd & his 100 series

Ok, come check out my rig!!

I purchased my Toyota LandCruiser 100 Series HDJ100, with the mighty 1HD-FTE engine, in 2011. At the time, they were selling like hot cakes — every vehicle advertised seemed to be sold within two weeks, max!

I finally found this one pop up on Carsales in Tamworth, NSW. I flew up, checked it out and dropped a deposit on it right away. I organised finance and drove it home two weeks later.

It came with front and rear bar work, and the car yard loved having it sitting on the yard because it brought in a lot of people.

My first big trip was the Simpson Desert and Finke Race, about three weeks after getting it.

Over the years, the mods have been happening, including a roof rack with a 40” light bar and Oztent 270° awning, plus a 2.5” Platinum suspension lift from Autocraft, which has now sagged and is due for a refresh 😏.

It also has three Narva Ultima driving lights, OffRoad Systems rear drawers to suit a 200 Series if I ever downgrade 😉, an upgraded intercooler, an air compressor hard-mounted with outlet points front and rear, and front and rear diff locks. The factory diffs eventually needed rebuilding with time.

There are rear lights on the spare wheel, a Runva 12K winch, UHF and a stereo system throughout.

Tyres have been a selection over the years, from the factory 31” to 35”, and now back to 33” again.

I had a full tidy-up and respray a few years ago, then three months later we went to Tassie and did more damage than it went in to get repaired with 😬🫣🫢. But at the same time, I still think that’s been one of my favourite trips ever!

Yes, I’ve spent way too much money on it over the years — from replacing a CV or 12, rebuilding the gearbox and diffs, tail shafts, resprays and fuel — but I couldn’t think of a better vehicle to replace it with!

My favourite mod would have to be the diff locks, as they just take me so much further.

My advice to someone starting out would be to put on a decent set of all-terrain tyres and just get out there and enjoy our awesome country.

One of our club meet & greets rolled in together with our monthly meeting at Mt Disappointment.

A relaxed day with members and visitors, a free BBQ was put on, plenty of 4WD chat and a scenic drive to top it all off.
