Foothills Community Care - Community Meals

Foothills Community Care - Community Meals Foothills Community Care has been operating in Knox and Dandenong Ranges area since 2002. Since 2002, on average 250 people gather together to share the day.

Foothills Community Care is a not-for-profit grassroots organisation that walks alongside those who are in need of a safe place to connect in the Dandenong Ranges and Knox areas of outer eastern Melbourne. We aim to support people in our local community, especially those who are vulnerable, isolated and in need of an extra hand up. We provide free weekly hot takeaway meals on Monday evenings in Up

wey and Wednesday evenings in Ferntree Gully for anyone in the local community, no need to book. We also provide free frozen homecooked nutritious meals delivered through our Community Casseroles. Foothills Community Care also hosts the annual Ferntree Gully Christmas Day Lunch on December 25 for people who would normally spend Christmas alone. We also provide a DV Peer Support Group for women and children in our local area. Since COVID restrictions have come in, we have adapted our services to continue to serve our local community with compassion and love. This week is National Volunteer Week, and today we acknowledge our amazing volunteers who make our two Op Shops so special.
We have been running our Op Shops over the past 2 years and currently we have our store in Tecoma, along with our brand new one at our Foothills Hub in Upwey.
Every day our volunteers work tirelessly, sorting donations, curating the space, meeting with locals and providing a great environment for all that come through our doors. Our shops are more than just a place to upcycle and sell goods so they don't go into landfill, they are spaces of warmth and inclusion where people feel connected and welcomed.
Thank you to our amazing volunteers.

This week is National Volunteer Week, and today we acknowledge our amazing volunteers who make our Wednesday, Ferntree Gully Community Meal night so special.
For the past 19 years, our team has provided a meal every Wednesday night at the Guly Guide hall, in fact they have served at nearly 900 nights!
Alongside cooking and serving delicious and hearty meals, they also provide a welcome space for everyone who comes along, either for a dine-in or takeaway meal, along with food parcels, care packages and other goodies. We also celebrate our Orange Sky volunteers who wash and dry people's laundry every Wednesday night as well.
Everyone is welcome at our table!

Exciting News! 🎉⭐
We are absolutely over the moon this morning! We just received word that one of our very own Mum’s Connection Space team members has been named a finalist in the YMCA Victoria 2026 Victorian Mother of the Year! The Victorian Mother of the Year Award celebrates extraordinary role models and community caregivers who work tirelessly to create a just world where everyone belongs. This mission is the heartbeat of everything we do here at Foothills, and we couldn't be prouder to see that dedication recognized on such a big stage.

To our nominee: thank you for your heart, your leadership, and for being such an inspiration to the mums and families in our community. We are all cheering for you!

Some highlights from our first Foothills Bingo night at our Foothills Hub last night. It was great to have a crowd along to join in the fun on a Friday night and be treated to a scrupulous dinner, great chats, loads of fun and prizes, and of course, the excitement of bingo!

A massive shout out to our team for making it all happen, our good friends at Rotary Club of Belgrave who ran the bingo, and our sponsors of prizes, including Bodacious Coffee, Ripple Zenthai Shiatsu and Breaking Barriers Fitness Coaching. Thank you all for your fine support.

All funds raised on the night go straight back into our community supports, helping us serve 55,000+ free meals to our local community each year, along with inclusive safe spaces.

Keep an eye out for our next one on Friday June 5

Tomorrow we will remember.

Tomorrow morning, many of us from Foothills will be standing with our neighbours at ANZAC Day dawn services. Afterwards, we'll be open at our Foothills Hub at Upwey - because gathering, looking after each other, and sharing a cuppa and a conversation is its own kind of honouring.

Tomorrow, we'd like to say thank you to all who contribute to our community. We'll be offering free coffee and hot drinks all morning.

Foothills Community Op-Shop, Tecoma and Upwey at our Hub Cafe open 10am–1pm · Op-Shop open as usual
Find us on Main St Upwey (behind the IGA, enter from the back, through the carpark)

Everyone is welcome at our table.
