Heather, foster carer with Phoenix Wildlife Haven run by Wendy had a great visit to our Support Centre in Narre Warren, getting all sorts of supplies and consumables to help them care for native wildlife.

Heather was very appreciative of the support and goods she could take back to the team.

🌿 OCTOBER SHELTER SPOTLIGHT 🌿

Whilst only a new shelter, Robyn Beaton from Konongwootong Wildlife Shelter has been involved in wildlife rescue for 10 years.

Like most shelters, Robyn is self funded and relies on public donations and grants to provide the necessary care, including feed, housing, medical treatment and petrol costs.

Exciting progress at Helping Hand Wildlife Shelter 🌿

Jo-Lee has used the $1000 funding we provided towards timber for a new flight aviary and construction is already underway 😄 Glenn has dug 20 post holes (with a hired post-hole digger, thankfully) and is now putting the posts in.

They’re including both the undercover area and the long grassed section, creating a much larger space. This bigger aviary will give rescued birds a fantastic place to exercise and strengthen their flight muscles, while also helping Jo-Lee assess them properly 🐦

We can’t wait to see the finished enclosure!

Our rescue phones are starting to ring a lot more with calls for wildlife needing assistance. The busy season is officially here 🚑

Last year we launched our Basic Online Wildlife Rescue and Transport course. While it was created to teach rescue and transport skills, it’s also a fantastic resource for the community to learn how to spot injured or orphaned wildlife and what you can do to help them. 🦘🐾

Click the link to learn more and share this post to your friends and family, it will go a long way toward getting everyone prepared to support our native animals.

August Shelter Spotlight Update, Jade from Wombat Wisdom Wildlife Care 😊

W4W was proud to support Jade and the wildlife in her care with a donation of hay, feed and Bunnings vouchers.

Jade has put the vouchers toward 42 square pavers for the bottom of her bird aviaries. This will help keep the cages clean and make them much easier to disinfect with F10.

Thank you Jade for the update and for wonderful work you do. We’re glad we could help!

We also want to give a special thank you to Louise, our Secretary and Shelter Support Coordinator. 💕

Louise is constantly building connections across the wildlife industry, securing both practical donations and providing much needed moral support for wildlife rehabilitators. On our Support 4 Shelter Day she helped coordinate the donations and made sure every single person who came along felt welcome.

She quietly gets so much done behind the scenes, we’re incredibly lucky to have her on the team. 😇

💚 September Shelter Spotlight 💚

Jo-Lee from Helping Hand Wildlife Shelter in Metung has spent the last few years rescuing and caring for native wildlife.

‘It is a real privilege that they allow us to help them at a time when they are so vulnerable. Each animal is precious so it’s bittersweet to release them, but I always feel very excited for them to be free again.’ 🕊️🥰

A big shout out to Nigel Williamson, our Vice-President, who built 45 possum boxes for our open day!

These boxes give Brushtail Possum’s a safe home while they’re in rehabilitation, once ready, the possums are released with the boxes to help them transition smoothly back into the wild.

Thank you Nigel for your massive effort and always helping our native wildlife. 💪💚

A big thank you to our wonderful volunteer Inge, one of our pouch makers!

Inge went above and beyond for Support 4 Shelter Day by hand-sewing 42 snuggle pods for shelters and carers. We’ve already received lovely feedback that the orphaned joeys are loving their cosy new beds.
