Good morning from Sydney where we are enjoying meeting our brand new friends and business owners.
Yesterday we had some lucky migrants who won the raffles The Great Sydney Highland Fair .

Great to meet Liz Gray who told us all about husband Barry Pipers Of Distinction and their family business at A Highland Wedding Kilt Hire

Halloween in Scotland
The Word “Halloween”: Derived from the Scots contraction of All Hallows’ Even (All Saints’ Eve), with even meaning evening.
Guising: Children dressed in costume and performed a song, poem, or joke to earn treats.
Turnip Lanterns: Scots carved neeps (turnips) into lanterns long before pumpkins became popular.
Apple Dookin’: Festivities included bobbing for apples and Hallowmas cakes hiding fortunes such as rings or coins.
Divination & Bonfires: Bonfires, torchlit gatherings, and fortune-telling traditions using hazelnuts, kale stems, and other customs featured prominently, as described by Robert Burns in Hallowe’en (1785).

We've received a few emails asking for our thoughts on a recent Scottish music event.
As we neither attended the event nor have detailed knowledge of its organisation, we're not in a position to comment on it.

Our focus remains on supporting Scottish music and cultural initiatives that are connected with us through the Melbourne Celtic Festival and the events, artists, and projects we share through our social media channels.

More broadly, many Scottish events in Australia are delivered through heritage-based community groups. Our work centres on a migrant-led approach that reflects contemporary Scottish voices and community connections.

We hope this clears up any confusion.
