Save Rapid Creek We demand an immediate stop to all development in the headwaters of Rapid Creek. In 2011, the rains of Cyclone Carlos inundated over 100 homes.

Rapid Creek is a beautiful linear park within the confines of Australia’s fastest growing capital city, Darwin. Extensive clearing of the woodland and development of the upper Rapid Creek Catchment is directly responsible for quicker and higher flooding. If more land is developed, the flooding will be more intense and many more people affected. These vast increases in water flow will require exten

sive flood mitigation schemes. Unfortunately, pressure is mounting to turn Rapid Creek into a large concrete drain. Our NT Government is treating the people like mushrooms and has procrastinated for over 30 years. The government is kowtowing to the developers who are industrialising the catchment, despite the inconvenience to landowners and residents downstream. And despite the very real threat to this beautiful monsoonal rainforest creek. The most important and logical flood mitigation scheme is the protection of the remaining forest in the Rapid Creek catchment. We call on the NT Government, the Darwin Airport Corporation, the Defence Forces and City of Darwin to immediately halt all development in the Rapid Creek headwaters.
