🌊 Saltwater Dreaming on the Gold Coast 🌊

Last Saturday, the QIBN team travelled to Tallebudgera to attend the QLD Native Foods 'Saltwater Dreaming' Festival, a celebration of Country, culture, community and native foods.

It was fantastic to spend the morning connecting with community, meeting First Nations artists, makers, bushfood businesses and cultural creatives, and seeing so many deadly Indigenous businesses showcasing their products and services.

A special shout out to our Members who helped bring the festival to life, including Aunty Dale Chapman from My Dilly Bag, Chris Jordan from Three Little Birds Events, and Tamra Forde from Songlines Digital. It was wonderful to see your contributions helping create such a vibrant and culturally rich event.

Last Friday, QIBN CEO, Paul, and Senior Projects Officer, Adam attended the Department of Transport and Main Roads' Meet the Buyer briefing for The Wave and Mooloolah River Interchange (MRI) projects on the Sunshine Coast.

It was a valuable opportunity to hear directly from project leaders and delivery partners about upcoming procurement opportunities, project timelines and supplier engagement pathways associated with these significant infrastructure projects.

Events like these are important for ensuring Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander businesses have early visibility of future opportunities and understand how they can position themselves to participate in major projects across Queensland.

Thank you to TMR and all project representatives for facilitating the session and providing businesses with practical information to help them prepare for upcoming opportunities.

We also enjoyed catching up with Members, businesses and stakeholders throughout the morning and look forward to continuing these conversations.

Last Thursday, QIBN CEO Paul Graham and Memberships Officer Jenny Mitchell attended The Dreaming Collective's National Reconciliation Week Breakfast in Mooloolaba.

Guests were welcomed to Country by Uncle Lyndon Davis, enjoyed live music from Al Bartholomew, and heard an inspiring keynote address from Natalie Williams, a proud Kamilaroi and Gubbi Gubbi woman, business owner, author and World Champion natural bodybuilder.

The breakfast also provided a wonderful opportunity to reconnect with Members, meet prospective Members and strengthen relationships with businesses and organisations from across the region. Thank you to everyone who stopped by for a yarn, shared their experiences or took the time to connect with us throughout the morning.

Thank you to The Dreaming Collective for hosting such an important event and creating a space for connection, reflection and action during National Reconciliation Week.

Our First In-Person QIBN Members Gathering Breakfast ☀️

It was wonderful to see so many current and in-process Members come together to yarn, connect and share valuable feedback about what Indigenous businesses want to see from QIBN moving forward.

As our first in-person Members Gathering, this event marked an important step in continuing to build a stronger and more connected network of Queensland Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander businesses.

These gatherings will be the first of many, and we are excited to keep creating spaces for our Members to connect, collaborate and grow together.

A big day in Brisbane at the Queensland Small Business Expo 📢

Today, the whole QIBN team came together at the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre for the final Queensland Small Business Expo, connecting with Indigenous businesses, corporates, government departments and support organisations.

Throughout the day, we had some deadly conversations about collaboration, opportunities and the future of Queensland’s Indigenous business sector. It was great to yarn with so many people who are passionate about creating stronger pathways and outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander businesses.

Events like these leave us excited for what is ahead for both QIBN and the broader Indigenous business sector in Queensland.
