Why wait until Thursday? 🤔 R U OK Day is coming up on the 10th, but this year's message is that you don't need a gazetted day to check in on someone.

As you know, life happens every day, which means the people around us can be doing it tough on any day too, not just the second Thursday in September.

Message a mate today. Ask a family member how they're really going. It doesn't need to wait for an "official" day to count. 😉

There's more to come on Thursday, but today's as good a day as any to start. 🗣️

Together, we can make a difference. 💙

Happy Father's Day. 🙌 We hope today's filled with good company, good food, and a bit of well earned appreciation.

From all of us here at Pink Ribbon, thanks for everything you do. 🤝 🤗 💙

Dads, stepdads, grandads, uncles, or just someone who's shown up like a father figure over the years... this Sunday is a great time for us to say thanks to them.

For some of our participants and families that support can look different day to day, but the appreciation's the same.

So if there's a dad or father figure in your world doing the quiet, steady stuff, let them know it hasn't gone unnoticed.

Here's to all the dads and father figures out there. 💙

You know how blokes aren't always great at asking for help? Turns out that applies to health too. 🙃

It's a pretty well known thing that men are less likely to get things checked, less likely to bring up concerns, and more likely to just push through.

Prostate Cancer Awareness Month has us thinking about that a bit more, but the same can go for support in general really.

Whether that's community supports, NDIS supports, or just having someone to lean on... asking for help isn't a weakness at all, it just means someone's actually looking after themselves properly.

So let this be a gentle nudge to check in on the men in your life, and maybe check in on yourself too. 💙

Last day of August, and tomorrow kicks off Prostate Cancer Awareness Month. 🎗️ Not exactly our usual space, but most certainly worth talking about.

Prostate cancer's one of the most common cancers affecting Australian men, and awareness months like this exist to get more people talking, checking in, and taking it seriously. 🗣️

There's actually a bit of crossover with what Community Supports like us do too.

Treatment and recovery can sometimes mean needing extra support with everyday things for a while, and that's exactly the kind of thing we help with.

And however that journey looks, the right support can make all the difference.

If you're still weighing up self-managed, plan-managed or NDIA-managed after Wednesday's post, its ok to take a breath. 😮‍💨

Plenty of people agonise over this decision like it's permanent, but it's really not.

📋 Start with plan-managed if you want less admin.

🎯 Try self-managed if you want full control.

🏛️ Go NDIA-managed if you just want it simple.

And if it turns out you picked wrong, that's fine too, you can change it whenever you need to. 🔄

The "right" option isn't a fixed answer, it's just whatever makes your life easier right now. That might look different in six months, and that's okay too. 🌱

If you need help deciding which is right for you, get in touch. We're always here to help. 🤝

Self-managed, plan-managed, NDIA-managed... kind of sounds like alphabet soup... 🤔

Your NDIS plan can be run in three different ways, and yep, you can even mix and match different support categories.

Here's the quick version:

📋 Self-managed, you're in the driver's seat. You choose your providers (registered or not), pay invoices, and keep your own records.

🤝 Plan-managed, a registered plan manager handles the money side for you, paying providers and keeping records, while you still choose who supports you.

🏛️ NDIA-managed, the agency itself handles the payments and record keeping.

And by the way, none of these are locked in forever either. You can ask to change how your plan is managed at any time.

We'll go into a bit more detail on Friday, on picking what actually suits you, but for now... you can get more info on the NDIS website at https://www.ndis.gov.au/participants/using-your-funding/plan-implementation-meeting/guide-your-management-options.

In the final of the series… if you've ever heard “You don't look disabled”… you're not alone.

And it's exactly the kind of thinking behind this myth. 🤔

The NDIS doesn't require you to "look" a certain way to qualify.

Eligibility comes down to how a condition affects your day to day, not whether it's something you can see.

Chronic illness, psychosocial disability, neurodivergence... none of that needs to be visible to be real, or to be eligible for support. 🤝

We touched on this last week with brain injury too. Same idea applies here, not every disability looks a certain way, and that doesn't make it any less real. 👀

Ever had someone judge a book by its cover, so to speak?

As Brain Injury Awareness Week wraps up this Sunday, it felt like a good time to say...

If you know someone living with a brain injury, or you're the one supporting them, having people around who actually understand that everyone's journey looks different makes a huge difference.

Some things you just can't see from the outside.

Well... research shows that brain injury's a bit like that. 🧠

No two are the same, some you'd never pick just by looking at someone, and recovery's different for everyone too... good days, harder days, and that's just all part of it.

This year's theme being many pathways, one community... 🤝 well, that pretty much sums it all up.

So this one's for everyone doing it their own way. 💙

This is a bit different from our usual content, but wanted to share it anyway... coz it can really help someone you know. 📋

The NDIS is running a survey at the moment for anyone who uses continence products, or supports someone who does.

It's all about helping improve the Continence Provider List... basically a resource that makes it easier to compare pricing and products from registered providers.

Not something we deal in ourselves of course, but hey, if it helps even one person out, it's definitely worth a mention.

If it's relevant to you, or someone you know... your feedback could make a difference to how the list works in the future.

Head over to www.engage.ndis.gov.au/projects/continence-provider-list-survey-2026 and you're there.
