Lantern garlands:

At Lionsbrae, residents turned the Blue Gum lounge into a rainbow factory for painting lanterns, stringing garlands, and occasionally splashing paint on each other by accident. One lantern looked like a sunset, though its creator admitted it might also be “a very determined orange blob.”

By the end, the garlands were long enough to lasso the building but were strung around the lounge for everyone to admire, the tea had a suspicious hint of paintbrush, and the smiles were brighter than the beautiful creations. Some photos from the activity.

Stories and Bingo with Pam

The lounge fills with smiles and chatter on alternate Tuesdays, as residents at Lionsbrae wait for Pam's Stories and Bingo. She arrives with a tote of storybooks, picture Bingo cards, and her trademark warmth & chic attire.

First come the stories: funny, touching, or full of whimsy tales, drawing everyone in. Then the Bingo cards are dealt, and the room bursts into laughter, friendly competition for chocolate prizes, and cheers for every win.

For the residents, it’s more than games and tales, it’s connection, joy, and something to look forward to every week. And for Pam, it’s simple: “Wouldn’t miss it for the world.”

Father's Day at Lionsbrae:

Beer in hand, bunting in progress, and bingo cards at the ready, this is where dads shine and there were no exceptions during the Father's day activities that panned out last week here at Lionsbrae. The craft table proved “rustic charm” is just a code for a co resident asking “ what did you make there?” vaguely. Bingo got competitive fast, and the raffle prizes? Let’s just say the jackets and chocolates had more suspense than a season finale. Cheers to a Father’s Day where no one had to mow the lawn and laughter was they key takeaway!

Residents from Lionsbrae headed to Lilydale Lake to watch the radio-controlled yacht race on a beautiful, relaxing day. A resident's son races one of the yachts. They enjoyed fruit cake slices & drove through McDonalds for a Cappuccino. It was the perfect weather and everyone appeared to have fun watching the yachts race each other.

Daffodil Day with the Lion cubs & our residents 🌼

Today, our community came alive with colour, laughter, and heartfelt connection as we celebrated Daffodil Day alongside the delightful tiny tots from Lion cubs. The room was awash with yellow posters and the bright daffodil brooches pinned proudly to chests, to the fresh blooms decorating the tables, and most importantly, the warmth in everyone’s smiles.

The little ones brought an infectious energy while they clapped and sang, filling the space with giggles as they moved to cheerful tunes with their mums. In return, our residents offered gentle encouragement, and the joy of simply being together.

We captured these precious moments in photos: generations side by side, united by a shared spirit of hope and resilience. Each daffodil worn, was a symbol of strength, compassion, and the belief in brighter days ahead as we enter into spring.

Daffodil Brooch Crafting

The residents gathered for a joyful afternoon of crafting daffodil brooches in preparation for Daffodil Day. As felt petals and golden threads came together, we spoke about the Daffodils being the first bright sign of spring and its role as the Cancer Council’s symbol of hope and resilience.

The room was filled with stories, laughter, and quiet moments of reflection, with each brooch becoming a personal token of support and remembrance. By the end of the brooch craft activity, a handful of sunny yellow blooms adorned cardigans with proud smiles, a simple yet powerful reminder that creativity and compassion can blossom side by side.

On the final visit of the term, the Tintern students filled the Blue Gum Lounge with warmth and chatter. One student carried a small, ribbon-tied package, crafted with care over many evenings.

She approached Alexei, a resident known for his gentle smile, and placed the gift in his hands saying: This is for you". As the paper fell away, a hand-painted horse was revealed.

Alexei’s eyes grew joyful “It's very nice Thank you so much”.
The student smiled. “I thought it might make your room feel more like home, because I know you love art and Tapestry".

Later, Alexei hung it where the morning light would find it first so he could see it and recall the student's kindness, carrying with it the quiet joy of the day.

An outing with the gents at Cafe L’a Wheels was more than just coffee and sandwiches, it was an experience with heart. This retro-inspired food truck café, founded by the RapadCare team, blends great food with a powerful mission: providing meaningful work for people with disabilities.

Warm smiles, rich brews, and a welcoming rock n roll/ blast from the past vibe, makes it a spot our gents love returning to, proof that good food tastes even better when it’s served with purpose.

**Cinnamon Scroll Trolley**
Residents at Lionsbrae enjoyed a delightful visit from the Cinnamon scroll trolley, filling the home with the warm aroma of freshly baked creamy cinnamon twirls. Sharing a sweet scroll and a cuppa sparked fond memories of baking with loved ones.

**Mini Pavlova Making**
On another sweet day, residents enjoyed creating their own mini pavlovas with cream and fresh fruit toppings. The activity encouraged creativity, social connection, and plenty of smiles as everyone proudly enjoyed their delicious creations together. 🍰

It's safe to say that we are a Sweet Home (pun intended)! 🍬🏠

If you thought fashion week was glamorous, you clearly haven’t seen Lionsbrae on Pyjama Day. The staff and residents hit the snooze button on their usual attire for flannel, fleece, and a suspicious number of novelty slippers shaped like animals. By 3pm, the lounge had transformed into a runway of pure comfort, think Paris Fashion Week, but with more elastic waistbands and sleep masks.
Happy Hour kicked off with everyone posing for photos like they were auditioning for the cover of Cosy & Fabulous Monthly, Vogue who I hear you ask?. Residents sipped their drinks while being serenaded with lullabies a bold move, considering half the crowd looked wound up with batteries ready to disco.
Then came the staff fashion parade. We saw everything from classic tartan sets to pyjamas so bright they could be spotted from space. One staff member strutted in a robe so fluffy it could have doubled as a cloud, while another rocked a onesie that made the room collectively question whether it was bedtime or a costume party. The Pyjama King and Queen were voted for & coronated with Pyjama crowns & bath bombs as their gifts..
By the end, the only thing louder than the applause was the sound of people debating whether it was socially acceptable to wear pyjamas to every Happy Hour from now on. Verdict: absolutely yes, we wish everyday was Pyjama Day. Zzzz
