Today is International Nurses Day - a time for us to celebrate our wonderful nurses and thank them for their dedication, kindness and expertise.

The care and commitment shown by the nurses at Lionsbrae makes a meaningful difference in the lives of our residents every day.

The roving sensory trolley rolled through Lionsbrae like it owned the place part spa, part mystery tour. Residents sniffed lavender & soft herbs, and tapped along to music, while one gentleman confidently declared rosemary to be “definitely something mum used in desserts." Yikes!

The mint supply mysteriously shrank between stops (no suspects, but plenty of: ahh I remember that from Nan's pasta). By the end, the trolley had initiated warm conversations from the past, while reminiscing laughter, and chaotic family gatherings that ended in a round trip to the dining room.

Have you heard of Oshibana? Is it is the delicate Japanese art of pressing flowers and foliage while preserving colour and texture. What happens when you combine Oshibana with card making at Lionsbrae? Well, Oshibana card-making day was a masterclass of laughs and fun, someone almost used lip balm instead of glue, Arnie's “judgmental foliage” looked suspiciously like a politician, and Cynthia stuck on petals “with more drama than a soap opera.”
The cards turned out amazing, and one cardigan had a permanent pressed pansy upgrade.

Since Charlotte, our new gentle therapy dog, joined Lionsbrae from the Lort Smith foundation, she’s brought warmth, comfort, and joy to our residents. Her calm presence sparks smiles, stirs fond memories, and eases feelings of loneliness.

We’ve seen more laughter, conversation, and even gentle activity as residents look forward to her visits. Charlotte is so much more than a therapy dog she’s a friend who connects hearts in the simplest, most beautiful way. Some photos of her with owner Craig.

Lionsbrae residents recently experienced the winter menu food tasting, to sample out new items being introduced. This was executed beautifully by catering industries. Onkar & Cheff Matt oversaw the process and resident verdicts were excellent.
Some photos from the day.

The residents of Lionsbrae baked delectable mini cheesecakes together yesterday. Rosie’s “secret ingredient” was just… more cheesecake, while Cynthia whispered to the crust like it was a houseplant, and Kim added the raspberries “for dramatic effect.”
The verdict? Five stars for flavour, zero stars for survival. They were gone before you could blink. A cheesy day in the sweetest way.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old;
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.
Response:
We will remember them
Lest we forget

Today at Lionsbrae, the residents came together in quiet unity, preparing for tomorrow’s Anzac Day. Around the tables, hands worked carefully to weave two wreaths of fresh greenery and rosemary, each ribbon tied with care and remembrance.

Nearby, others crafted colourful buntings in red, white, and blue, their gentle chatter and shared smiles adding warmth to the solemn task. By afternoon, the wreaths stood ready in reception and Blue Gum. It was dressed in fluttering colours a tribute made together, to honour those who served and those we will never forget.

John and Graeme took on the Acacia sensory garden like two sheriffs in a wild west w**d showdown. The lovely weather was an added bonus.

John inspected each plant like it was on trial, while Graeme pulled w**ds so fast they didn’t know what hit them.

By the time they were done, the garden was spotless and the w**ds were serving a life sentence in the compost bin.

This afternoon, Sandy Dodd’s Entertainment Hour rolled into RALAC like a country train with no brakes, and nobody wanted to get off. Residents tapped their toes, clapped their hands, and sang along to country tunes so catchy even the chairs were swaying.

Sandy’s voice was smoother than a fresh jar of peanut butter, and the crowd sang with such gusto that a few hearing aids probably asked for overtime pay. By the end, everyone agreed: it was a full‑blown hoedown… minus the hay bales, but with twice the heart.
