Meet Ned 🐾
After recently sharing the story of a rare spotted-tailed quoll, we never expected another quoll to arrive at Northern Rivers Wildlife Hospital so soon!
Ned is a Northern Quoll who was found on a property in Eureka, well outside of the species' normal range. His arrival was a surprise for our team, and a skin sample has now been sent to the Australian Museum for DNA analysis to help us learn more about this unusual sighting.
Unfortunately, Ned arrived with a fractured jaw and burns to all four feet, including second-degree burns to both hind feet 😢
While our team began treating his burns with MGO 1700+ Manuka Honey generously donated by AusManuka, his jaw injury required specialist treatment.
Thanks to Dr Gordon Corfield and the wonderful team at Veterinary Specialist Services (VSS) in Carrara, Ned underwent surgery to repair the fracture using a tiny 1.5mm plate.
Ned recovered beautifully from surgery and safely made the journey back to Northern Rivers Wildlife Hospital, where his recovery is continuing. He ate well on his first night back and has already gained a little weight 🙌
We're hopeful that with plenty of rest and care, Ned will make a full recovery over the next 4–6 weeks and can eventually be released 💚
A huge thank you to Dr Gordon Corfield and the vets and vet nurses at VSS for generously donating their time, expertise and care for Ned 🙏
