Kidney Health Australia Improving the lives of Australians with kidney disease through education, advocacy, research and support.

Kidney disease has no warning signs which means that a person can lose up to 90% of their kidney function without knowing it. Help us to do our work in your kidney community: Please donate now. Your tax-deductible donation to Kidney Health Australia will fund support and advocacy programs for people who are doing it tough. You will help us work towards the early detection of kidney disease, so tha

t we are able to detect more people with kidney disease early, so they can perhaps delay dialysis or transplantation.

"This year I am running 12km in the HBF "Run for a Reason" in May to raise money and awareness for kidney health; after losing my beautiful Nanna to kidney disease last year this is a cause that is close to my heart.

Nan was a stubborn, fiery lady and she had such a big personality. She is dearly missed. I've been reflecting upon her life and her influence on all of us a lot lately - especially as the anniversary of her passing is approaching - and I wanted to do something to remember her and to acknowledge all the kidney health/dialysis team that made the final years of her life as comfortable as possible. Nan always raved about how amazing her dialysis nurses were and credited them for making an otherwise terrible situation a little bit brighter."

Thank you Chloe for sharing your story and raising money and awareness for Aussies living with kidney disease. You can donate to Chloe here: https://runforareason26.grassrootz.com/kidney/chloe-freeman

🥟 Celebrate Lunar New Year with Ange's kidney-friendly pork dumplings! This recipe is a favourite of Angela, mum to Maddie. When Maddie was diagnosed with kidney failure as a teenager, their family quickly had to rethink how they approached food. Together, they learned to adapt recipes, reduce potassium and salt, and find creative alternatives while still enjoying delicious meals.

"My name is Madison Hives I am 11 years old and I was diagnosed with kidney scaring at 4 years old my left kidney has not grown. At school I had a passion project, and I chose a bake sale selling kidney shaped cookies and raised $120 to help people with kidney disease. I chose it because I am part of Kidney Health Australia myself! I hope the money can lead to saving someone’s life!"

Thank you Madison for sharing your story with us and for raising much needed funds and awareness 💖

Today, our Community Engagement Manager Stephen Cornish embarks on his retirement after seven and a half years of service at Kidney Health Australia.

Steve, or 'Kidney Dad' as he is affectionately known by hundreds of kidney kids, leaves behind an incredible legacy.

Steve first came on board to advise with the Youth State of the Nation report in 2018. He soon became a permanent part of the Community Team, and brought the Kidney Kid Es-Caper Events to life. These events provided an opportunity for hundreds of kidney kids and their families to forge friendships with others who know what it's like to be impacted by kidney disease.

In COVID lockdown, the Kidney Buddy program was born out of the need for connection during times of isolation. Since, under Steve's guidance, the Kidney Buddy has become a permanent fixture of Kidney Health Australia's peer support. More than 130 mentors have joined, and Steve along with other staff have completed more than 230 pairings.

Steve has also spearheaded the Youth Champion program, as well as the newly-created Youth Ambassador Program.

The last event Steve ran was the Kidney Kid Es-Caper Event at Busselton in November - which Steve says was always a personal goal for him at Kidney Health Australia.

Steve recently became a grandfather for the first time, and is looking forward to lots of family time, with a side of travelling and golf.

Steve, from the team at Kidney Health Australia and our kidney community, thank you for your many years of service! We are wishing you a very happy retirement.

8 days. 100 mates. One unforgettable adventure that changes lives. Ready to hit the road this August?

The 2026 Rally isn’t your average road trip. Over eight extraordinary days, you’ll travel through some of Australia’s most stunning outback and regional landscapes, tackling dirt roads and hidden tracks, exploring towns off the tourist trail, and sharing every moment with an incredible community of rallytives.

What makes the Rally special? The heart behind it. Every kilometre you drive helps fund life-changing support for kids and young people living with kidney disease, giving them access to the programs and experiences they deserve.

Health Australia has recently welcomed five new members to the team to support our Kidney Health 4 Youth Program as Community Youth Ambassadors. They will be visiting local paediatric and young adult hospitals to connect with kidney kids, youth consumers and carers, inviting them to join the Kidney Health 4 Youth program. They’ll provide peer support, help coordinate family education sessions with local health teams, and help manage and engage the Kidney Youth online peer support group.

Meet Mads, our New South Wales Community Youth Ambassador.

"I was diagnosed with a rare autoimmune disease at the age of 11. My treatment involved plasma exchange and intensive immunosuppression, followed by just over a year on peritoneal dialysis. I later received a kidney transplant, generously donated by my mother. In recent years, I have transitioned from the children’s hospital system into adult healthcare, an experience that has shaped much of my advocacy work.

I am most looking forward to supporting young people and young adults as they navigate living with kidney disease while maintaining a balanced and fulfilling quality of life. I am passionate about ensuring that, despite the many challenges kidney disease can bring—particularly during the transition from paediatric to adult care—young people are empowered to continue living their lives, prioritise their health, and feel supported along the way."
