YFO is a unique organisation, offering early intervention programs to engage young people in therapy utilising complex trauma focused outdoor adventure therapy. The framework is backed up by new and emerging research in mental health showing the underlying importance of regulating the hind brain before accessing talking therapy, such as counselling. This is achieved using a phased treatment proces

s of outdoor activities which allow participants to recognise their physiological states and emotions. Supporting young people with both emerging and established mental health concerns, Youth Flourish Outdoors adventure therapy practitioners embed their practice with human rights, neurodiverse affirming and trauma informed approaches.

Due to the impacts of Cyclone Alfred, Youth Flourish Outdoors will be temporarily closing all Adventure-Based Youth Work sessions in the Southeast Queensland region to prioritise everyone's safety.

🌿 Exciting News for Outdoor Therapies in Queensland! 🌿

We're thrilled to announce the release of the Outdoor Therapy and Mental Health Summit Report and the launch of the Nature-based Health Alliance (NHA)! 🎉

Co-developed by Youth Flourish Outdoors Ltd and Outdoors Queensland, the summit brought together experts, government agencies, universities, NGOs, and lived experience voices to explore how outdoor therapies can transform mental health care.

The NHA is now leading the charge to integrate these cost-effective, inclusive, and evidence-based solutions into Queensland’s mental health frameworks, aligned with the Shifting Minds 2023-28 mental health plan.
