We were grateful to meet with Minister for Tourism and Multicultural Affairs in the South Australian Malinauskas Labor Government, Zoe Bettison MP, alongside the Multicultural Communities Council of SA (MCCSA) to discuss the experiences of multicultural and multi-faith LGBTQIA+ communities across South Australia.

Thank you, Minister, for your openness, thoughtful engagement, and strong commitment to an intersectional approach that recognises how culture, faith, sexuality, and gender intersect. Your understanding and willingness to engage meaningfully with these complexities was deeply valued.

While progress has been made, important work remains to ensure multicultural and multi-faith LGBTQIA+ people can live safely, openly, and with dignity. We appreciate your support and look forward to continuing this important work together. 🌈

🎉👏 AGMC is incredibly proud that our founding member and former president, Dr Judy Tang, has been awarded an Order of Australia Medal (OAM). 🎉👏

This recognition honours Judy’s tireless advocacy for LGBTQIA+ multicultural and multi-faith communities across Australia.

For years, Judy has built meaningful relationships grounded in trust, respect, connection, and genuine care. Her ability to bring people together, create safe spaces, and champion voices that too often go unheard has transformed the landscape for our communities.

This award is well deserved, and we look forward to continuing to work alongside Judy. No matter how busy she gets, she always has time for AGMC – and that says everything about who she is.

👏 Congratulations, Dr Judy Tang OAM! 👏

January 26th is not a day of celebration.
Sovereignty was never ceded, and as an organisation of migrants and newly arrived communities, we stand in solidarity with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in the journey towards truth-telling, reconciliation, and justice 🖤💛❤️

🌈🌈🌈AGMC has been up to a lot this November! 🌈🌈🌈

From national conferences to local community celebrations, our team has been busy strengthening connections, elevating voices, and advocating for inclusive futures.

➡️ Better Together Conference

We kicked off the month contributing to the Better Together Conference, where leaders and community members explored what real inclusion looks like. AGMC shared our work supporting multicultural LGBTQIA+ communities across Australia.

➡️ LGBTQIA+ Multicultural Fair Day

We joined the vibrant Fair Day at Barry Road Community Centre, a joyful celebration of culture, identity, and pride that showcased the strength and beauty of our diversity.

➡️ National Settlement Conference

President Shelley represented AGMC at the National Settlement Conference hosted by SCOA, bringing our voice to national conversations on settlement services. The conference featured insightful discussions on advocacy for newly arrived communities and the intersecting barriers they face, ensuring multicultural LGBTQIA+ perspectives were part of the dialogue.

As November wraps up, we’re proud of the connections we’ve strengthened, the voices we’ve amplified, and the communities we’ve celebrated. Here’s to continuing the work together.

AGMC is deeply saddened by the views that were recently shared on the Equality Project podcast. These comments do not reflect the values of inclusivity, respect, and solidarity that should be at the heart of our community.

Some members of the AGMC Committee will still be attending the Better Together conference. Our intention in doing so is to seek accountability, take meaningful action, and stand in solidarity with our trans and gender-diverse community members.

AGMC remains committed to ongoing education, advocacy, and reflection within our own organisation. We know that building a truly inclusive community requires consistent effort and accountability, and we will continue to engage with our members and broader networks to ensure that commitment is lived every day.
