We are organising a Youth Connect Day to coincide with Queensland Youth Week

TAIHS Youth Connect Day will be a day dedicated to the Youth of Townsville.

The days aims to bring together youth and community members to share information, build relationships, and participate in free activities that promote collaboration and empowerment.

The event aims to foster a sense of belonging and unity among attendees, encouraging young people to engage actively with their community.

It will feature a variety of stall holders, games, and performances designed to inspire creativity and innovation.
Participants can look forward to engaging discussions on important topics such as mental health, education, and career opportunities, all led by knowledgeable leaders and mentors.

In addition to the informative sessions, there will be plenty of opportunities for fun and relaxation.
Attendees can enjoy sports activities, art projects, and interactive showcases that highlight the talents and achievements of local youth.

By creating a supportive and inclusive environment, TAIHS Youth Connect Day hopes to empower young individuals to pursue their passions and contribute positively to their communities.

NAIDOC Theme for 2024 - Keep the fire burning

Blak, Loud and Proud

This year's theme celebrates the unyielding spirit of our communities and invites all to stand in solidarity, amplifying the voices that have long been silenced.

The fire represents the enduring strength and vitality of Indigenous cultures, passed down through generations despite the challenges faced. It is a symbol of connection to the land, to each other, and to the rich tapestry of traditions that define Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

As we honour this flame, we kindle the sparks of pride and unity, igniting a renewed commitment to acknowledging, preserving, and sharing the cultural heritage that enriches our nation.

"Blak, Loud and Proud" encapsulates the unapologetic celebration of Indigenous identity, empowering us to stand tall in our heritage and assert our place in the modern world.

This theme calls for a reclamation of narratives, an amplification of voices, and an unwavering commitment to justice and equality. It invites all Australians to listen, learn, and engage in meaningful dialogue, fostering a society where the wisdom and contributions of Indigenous peoples are fully valued and respected.

Through our collective efforts, we can forge a future where the stories, traditions, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities are cherished and celebrated, enriching the fabric of the nation with the oldest living culture in the world.

Raise the age

Children don’t belong in prisons or watch houses.

We’re proud to be working with to of criminal responsibility in Queensland.

We need an alternative to the youth justice system for children under 14 years old that helps address the root causes of problematic behaviour and gets young people back on track. Join our campaign:

Young children do not belong in the criminal justice system. Government should raise the age of criminal responsibility to at least 14 years of age, and provide services and support to children, families, and communities.
