Make A Wish Australia (Melbourne branch) would like to give a HUGE shout out to our Vice President, Sophie, who has just completed 15 years of volunteering with Make A Wish. We could not be more proud of her.

Sophie is an amazing person who is passionate about Make A Wish. Sophie gives 100% of herself to everything she does. She is kind, hard working, dedicated, committed, passionate, and extremely supportive of her fellow volunteers.

We could not have a better person as Vice President of our branch.

Outside of Make A Wish, Sophie has three children under 5, works as a lawyer and loves running. We do not know how Sophie does everything she does and does it with such kindness, dedication, commitment and passion.

Thank you for everything you do for our branch, organisation and children with life challenging illnesses, Sophie . You are an amazing person and a much loved and admired branch member. We are very lucky to have you at our branch, Sophie.

I want to give a MASSIVE shout out to Palace cinemas and also Balwyn cinema.

I was involved in organising a movie night, as a fund raising event, for Make A Wish recently. palace cinemas were fantastic and could not do enough for us.

Palace cinemas told us the ticket price for the movie we wanted to screen was $30, however they would reduce the price to $10 and include a bucket of popcorn for each person, for that price. They also only charged us for the tickets we sold. Many of the other cinema companies we contacted did not offer a discount or include food or drinks with the ticket. They also told us we had to pay for every seat in the cinema. $30 for 500 seats equates to $15 000. We simply could not afford that as a charity.

We initially booked a 42 seater cinema with Palace cinemas, however our ticket sold out pretty quickly. We upgraded to the next cinema, which had 152 seats. it didn’t matter if we didn’t sell every seat because palace were only charging us for the seats we sold, so even if we didn’t sell any further seats, we would have only been charged for the 42 seats we sold.
We ended up selling 105 seats and raising $2 160 for our organisation, thanks to Palace’s generous offer of only taking 1/3 of the ticket price. We also appreciated them including popcorn for each ticket holder.

If you ever consider organising a movie night for an organisation you are involved in, I would absolutely recommend using Palace cinemas. They were fantastic and Ben over backwards for us.
We are considering organising another movie night for next and are not even considering contacting another cinema.
