A very special night celebrating 10 years of Vanni Hope 💚

On Saturday, 29 August, we came together at Strathfield Town Hall in Sydney with supporters, volunteers, partners, performers and friends to reflect on the journey so far and celebrate everyone who has helped make the past decade possible.

It was wonderful to look back through the memories, hear from our Directors, enjoy some incredible performances, and share our 10-year recap video together for the first time.

Thank you to everyone who joined us on the night, and to everyone around the world who has been part of Vanni Hope’s journey over the past 10 years.

We are incredibly proud of what we have built together and excited for what comes next.

For 46 families living in temporary shelters in Naranghena Division, Loolecondera Estate, reliable access to clean drinking water is now helping make everyday life safer and easier as they recover from the impact of Cyclone Ditwah.

An approximately two kilometre pipeline, together with individual household water storage tanks, now brings clean water directly to families within the community. This means improved access for everyday needs while supporting better health, hygiene, comfort, and dignity.

Importantly, the project was designed with long term sustainability in mind, encouraging community participation and responsible use to help ensure families can continue benefiting from the water system into the future.

For hundreds of students in Balangoda, something as fundamental as having clean, safe and dignified water and sanitation facilities can make a meaningful difference to their everyday school experience.

Students at R/B/Hindu College and R/B/Thiruvalluvar Tamil Maha Vidyalayam can now benefit from improved water and toilet facilities following the successful completion of rehabilitation work across both schools. Together, the schools serve approximately 850 students.

The improvements will help encourage better hygiene practices while giving students greater comfort, privacy and dignity throughout their school day. Most importantly, these facilities will continue supporting healthier learning environments for students in the years ahead.

Essential training materials were provided to support 40 students with autism participating in Handicraft and Phone Repairing Training Programs in Kalmunai, creating greater opportunities for practical and vocational learning.

Through access to specialized equipment and hands on training, students can strengthen technical skills, creativity, confidence, concentration, and independence while developing abilities that can support future employment, self employment, and sustainable livelihoods.

The new equipment included tools for both handicraft and phone repairing activities, helping create a more inclusive and supportive environment where students can learn through practical experience.

This meaningful initiative was generously supported and implemented by Vanni Hope.

A clean drinking water supply project was officially handed over to 63 families living in temporary shelters in Madhumbara Estate, Rangala Division, Kandy District, following the devastating impact of Cyclone Ditwah.

Through the project, clean water was conveyed to the community through an approximately two kilometre pipeline and distributed to households through individual water storage tanks, providing families with a safer and more reliable source of water.

Access to clean water will help improve health, hygiene, dignity, and everyday living conditions while easing some of the hardships families have faced during their recovery from the disaster. These outcomes reflect the wider project's focus on safe water access and improved community wellbeing.

This meaningful initiative was generously sponsored by Priyani Singanayagam, family and friends and implemented by Vanni Hope.

A vulnerable family of five in Verugal, Trincomalee received housing support to provide a safer, more secure, and dignified living environment for the parents and their three young children.

The family had previously been living in a small, poorly
constructed hut that offered inadequate protection from rain and extreme heat. With both parents relying on irregular daily wage work, constructing a permanent home had remained beyond their financial means.

Through this project, the family gained improved safety, stability, hygiene, and living conditions, creating a stronger foundation for the children to grow and the family to move forward with greater security.

This meaningful initiative was generously sponsored by the Engineers Charity Fund in Australia and implemented by Vanni Hope.

Our Jaffna team recently came together for a farewell dinner for our accountant, Jananthy, as she prepares to begin an exciting new chapter in the United Kingdom, where she will be pursuing further studies.

We are incredibly grateful to Jananthy for her dedication, hard work and valued service to Vanni Hope. Behind every project, every initiative and every life we touch is a team of committed people working together...and Jananthy has been an important part of that team.
