🏠 Homelessness Week 2026: A Snapshot from Ulladulla

During Homelessness Week, we’re sharing the reality of homelessness in our local community and how your support is making a difference.

📊 August 2025 – August 2026

• 363 people reached out to us seeking crisis accommodation, compared with 234 the previous year — a 55% increase.
• We were only able to provide 90 beds, leaving 273 people without a safe place to sleep.

🍲 Food insecurity is also increasing.
Every week, our volunteers provide:
• 40 hot meals every Monday Night through our Soup Kitchen partnership.
• An additional 20 meals throughout the week for people doing it tough.

🧡 What these numbers tell us
Demand for emergency accommodation and food relief continues to grow, but our resources haven’t kept pace. Behind every statistic is a person, a family, or a child facing one of the most difficult times in their life.

💙 You can make a difference.
Whether you choose to volunteer, donate, or simply share this post, you’re helping provide hope and support to people in crisis.

A huge thank you to Shoalhaven City Councilfor partnering with us to create this video alongside Salt Care and SASSI

By working together, we’re raising awareness of homelessness, helping connect people with the support they need, and challenging the stigma that often surrounds homelessness. Every person deserves to be seen with dignity, compassion, and hope.

Today marks the beginning of Homelessness Week 2026, and this year's theme is:

"Homelessness Action Now"
Because we know what works. Now we need action at the scale and urgency the crisis demands.

To raise awareness and help break down the stigma surrounding homelessness, Safe Waters Community Care is holding an Open Day at our shelter.

📅 Today 10:00am - 1:00pm - 100 St Vincent Street, Ulladulla

Come along to tour our shelter, meet our team, learn about the services we provide, find out how you can support people experiencing homelessness in our community.

Homelessness can happen to anyone. It is often the result of circumstances beyond a person's control, such as:
• Job loss
• Relationship or family breakdown
• Rising cost of living pressures
• Domestic and family violence
• Mental or physical health challenges

People experiencing homelessness are our neighbours, friends, family members and community members. By understanding the realities of homelessness and challenging stereotypes, we can help create a more compassionate and supportive community.

We invite you to come down, ask questions, learn more, and join the conversation about how we can work together to ensure everyone has a safe place to call home.
