Join us for our last “Coffee with a Cop” in Trentham!

Join us at Adeline Trentham on Friday, 23 October, from 10am to 12pm for a free coffee, a chat and a chance to meet and connect with our new local Trentham police officer in a relaxed, friendly setting.

Police members will also be supporting the SafePL8 initiative, replacing your existing number plate screws with special anti-theft screws to help deter number plate theft.

Everyone is welcome! Come along, say hello, ask a question or simply enjoy a coffee with your local police.

Should you feed birds? Urban bird ecologist Dr Holly Parsons suggests three reasons you might want to hold off on using bird feeders:

1. They spread disease. Feeders crowd birds and their droppings into one small spot, which is how illnesses like beak-and-feather disease pass around.

2. They back the winners. The birds bold enough to dominate a feeder are already thriving. Feeding hands them a further advantage over the smaller, shyer birds doing it tough.

3. It’s usually the wrong food. Seed mixes, bread, mince and honey water used in feeders are a poor substitute for a natural diet and can do real harm.

The tens of thousands of ‘diggers’ who swarmed to Central Victoria during the 1850s’ goldrush gold soon learnt that their new home carried a mixed blessing.

The Bendigo and Mt Alexander (Castlemaine) goldfields were amazingly rich in gold – but they were also desperately poor in life-sustaining water.
This scarcity of ‘liquid gold’ was made worse by regular droughts, and was largely due to the inland climate of Central Victoria.

Unlike the rival goldfield of Ballarat, the Bendigo and Castlemaine goldfields sat north of the Great Dividing Range, Victoria’s mountainous backbone that often halted coastal rain from reaching the drier Northern Plains.
