Continuing Joy Donnellan’s legacy since 2012 The Joyful Foundation was created to see the efforts of the late Joy Donnellan continue in a manner that will benefit our community. The Joyful Foundation assists disadvantaged students, who for no reason of their own, have it tough. It was Joy’s belief that disadvantaged children were to not blame for their misdemeanors but rather the lack of opportunity to experience an environment that may give them more positive life values. In 1994 Joy graduated from James Cook University with a joint degree in Education and Psychology and went on to become a school teacher, Guidance Officer and a Registered Psychologist. It is the combination of intelligence, professionalism, optimism and compassion that ensured Joy’s work with so many people, in so many schools across the North Queensland Region made a difference. Joy had a special way of being able to connect with every young person she met, to make them feel understood and cared for, and to help them reach their true potential. The Joyful Foundation aims to continue spreading Joy's light by providing financial assistance to disadvantaged students, to provide them with basic needs and educational support that they might not otherwise receive. This, in turn, may allow them greater success in life and therefore benefit our community as a whole.
