This month, we sit down with Madeeha Waseem from QBuild. From her beginnings in Agricultural Engineering to delivering community infrastructure here in Australia, Madeeha’s story is one of resilience, growth, and impact.

Her insights on navigating a male-dominated industry, building confidence, and backing yourself are a powerful reminder of what’s possible.

A few weeks ago, NAWIC members had the opportunity to visit the newly completed Mater Maternity Unit in Pimlico, Townsville for a site tour ahead of the project’s handover.

A big thank you to , , Thorp, and & Townsend for taking the time to host our members and provide insight into this important project during the final stages leading up to completion.

It was fantastic to see first-hand the work that has gone into delivering this new facility for the Townsville community. Projects like this play such an important role in our region, and site tours like these give our members the opportunity to connect, learn, and see the incredible projects being delivered locally.

This is one of the great things about NQ - bringing people together across the industry to share knowledge and celebrate the projects shaping our community.

🌟 NAWIC Mentoring Program 2026 – Officially Launched! 🌟

Last week in Townsville, we were excited to celebrate the launch of the 2026 NAWIC Queensland Mentoring Program – a fantastic opportunity to connect, learn and grow together within our industry. Big thank you to Townsville for sponsoring and hosting the event.
This year’s program brings together experienced professionals and emerging leaders across the construction industry to share knowledge, build confidence and support career development. Mentoring is one of the most powerful ways we can strengthen our industry – by investing in people, sharing our experiences and supporting each other’s journeys.
Aligned with this year’s International Women’s Day theme “Give to Gain”, the program highlights the value of giving time, knowledge and support to others, while gaining fresh perspectives, stronger networks and meaningful professional growth in return.
A huge thank you to our mentors and mentees who have committed to being part of the 2026 program. Your willingness to participate is what makes initiatives like this so impactful for our community.
We look forward to seeing the connections, insights and achievements that will grow from this year’s mentoring partnerships.

With facilitator groups based in Brisbane and Townsville, the NAWIC QLD Mentoring Program is for (but not limited to):
• Construction industry professionals (of all genders!) within SEQ as well as regional and rural areas across all of Queensland,
• All individuals who are looking to grow their network and/or gain support from outside of their current company,
• Mentees who have graduated* and are new to the construction industry, or are well into their career, and are looking to continue their professional development with a fresh perspective, and
• Mentors who are passionate about women in construction, passing on their industry knowledge and helping to upskill the next ‘generation’ of construction professionals.

Following a successful pilot year, the NAWIC QLD Mentoring Program will again be facilitated by Mentorloop, NAWIC’s online mentoring and community platform, used across Australia.

As part of the Program, participants will be matched with individuals aligned to their career goals and aspirations, and will gain access to Mentorloop’s Resources platform, containing useful tools, articles and training videos designed to enhance participants’ mentoring experience.
