This has me a bit heated. 😡😤

I understand people are busy. I understand some people have kids, which can make it hard to return the trolley / cart. But piling them right here, in front of the disability parking spots is having blatant ignorance to people with disabilities.

We are fortunate enough that we can move trolleys out of the way for our daughter. But there are many people with disabilities who travel independently and may not be able to do that. Blocking this area is creating an unsafe situation where people with disabilities may not be able to access the walkway, forcing them to wheel out in the middle of the carpark, away from the cross walk.

Please, think twice before leaving your trolley out. Take the few extra steps to put it away or simple ask someone to take it back for you.

Adelaide conquered something BIG today! She rode a trike completely independently for the first time ever 😭

Riding a bike has always been difficult for Adelaide because of the leg strength, foot position, and the deformities of her arms making it difficult to steer.

Today, she decided to take off on her own and couldn’t get enough of it! My heart wants to burst seeing that smile on her face when she finally does something she’s worked so hard to get to. Every little task is exponentially harder for Adelaide compared to kids her age, and I’m just so proud of her determination and grit 💪❤️

She has every reason to take the easy way up. But she keeps choosing forward. 🤍

What looks like one little step is sometimes so much more than that.

So if you’re facing something that feels impossible right now, don’t worry about the whole mountain.

Just focus on the next step.

Then take another.

And another.

You don’t have to see the finish line. You just have to keep moving toward it.

Because someday, you’ll look back and realize that the steps that felt small at the time were actually carrying you through something incredibly hard.

And you’ll be amazed by how far you made it. 🤍

Whatever you’re facing today, keep moving forward one step at a time.

You can do hard things.

Last week Adelaide was invited to participate in Townsville’s The Challenge Games and all we can say is WOW!

It was a two-day event that brought together school students with disabilities around the community for fun and inclusive sports activities.

Adelaide had such a fun time trying different sports in an accessible way and got to try out a sports wheelchair for the first time!

What a beautiful opportunity for her to see children with assistive technology like hers as well as learning about disabilities and devices she had never experienced before.

These past two weeks have been filled with lots of appointments: rheumatology, dietician, x-rays, lower limb specialist, hydrotherapy, and physiotherapy on top of parent-teacher conferences, the Challenge Games, and all of her extracurriculars and two full-time working parents! WHEW!

All of Adelaide’s doctors are very happy with the strength and endurance she’s gained, her absence of pain, and the position of her foot in her AFOs. We are so thankful for this season and pray she continues to feel well and make progress ❤️🙏

A wonderful morning walking up Castle Hill in preparation for the Destination Adventure Great Island Trek next weekend where we will tackle 12km while pulling Adelaide in an Aceessible Hiking Cart!

A big shout out to Just Better Care Townsville for sponsoring our hike this year along with the Accessible 5k race! We are so appreciative of the support as we work to raise money for a wheelchair accessible vehicle! To donate to our cause, click here > www.gofundme.com/Access-for-Adelaide

Her laugh is contagious 😂

Adelaide thinks it’s hilarious to drive off without us now that she’s feeling more confident driving her wheelchair…

Cast update: it is off (for now!)

The doctors were very happy with how much progress was made in just one week of wearing her cast. Her foot turned out a decent amount, but still isn’t where it was before Easter. The plan is for Adelaide to wear her AFO and night splints as much as possible 24/7 to try and settle that foot into position. If she is getting discomfort or pressure sores, we will move forward with an additional week of casting. But for now, we are so thankful to be cast-free! Adelaide is a bit stiff and sore and just taking time easing into standing and bending her leg and hopes to feel okay taking steps in the next few days ❤️🙏
