Over a week on from our International Women’s Day Lunch, and we’re still energised by the incredible conversations, connections, and inspiration shared in the room. 💜

Our Women in Civil community continues to grow stronger, and events like this highlight the importance of creating spaces where women — and the colleagues who champion them — can come together to reflect, connect, and lead with purpose.

A sincere thank you to our event sponsors Cbus Super and Peter Kittle Toyota, and to our partner sponsor BMD. Your support plays a vital role in helping us drive meaningful change across the civil industry.

We’re also grateful to TRIM PHOTOGRAPHY for capturing the essence of the day so beautifully — the moments of insight, laughter, and genuine connection.

International Women’s Day may be one moment in the year, but the commitment to empowering women in civil is ongoing. Thank you to everyone who joined us and contributed to a memorable and impactful event.
Here’s to keeping the momentum going and continuing to build a more inclusive and supportive industry together.

Last Friday, Women in Civil came together to celebrate International Women’s Day with a truly inspiring event.

Jessica Adamson joined us as our special guest, sharing her personal journey and reflections with honesty and warmth. Many in our community have seen Jessica previously as the MC at our events, so it was a privilege to hear her story from a different perspective.

We also welcomed Steve, Kym, and Georgia to the panel — three individuals at different stages of their careers who brought thoughtful perspectives on leadership, opportunity, and the role we all play in creating a more inclusive industry.

Conversations like these are important. They challenge us, inspire us, and remind us that progress happens when we continue to listen, learn, and support one another.

International Women’s Day shouldn’t be just one day in the calendar — it’s something we should embrace every day, through our actions, our workplaces, and the way we champion each other.

Thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to such a meaningful event. 💜

🌟 Panel Speaker Announcement 🌟

Joining our International Women’s Day 2026 panel is Georgia Sturtzel, Civil Operator at McMahon Services.

At just 20 years old, Georgia has already built an impressive career in civil construction. With five years’ experience in the industry — both directly and through her civil construction apprenticeship — she has developed strong technical capability, holds multiple plant tickets, and is widely recognised for her reliability, work ethic and commitment to continuous learning.

Georgia is only the second woman to complete a civil construction apprenticeship through Civil Apprenticeships and Careers Ltd, supported by McMahon Services throughout her training. Her dedication and performance earned her a permanent role with the company upon completion.

🏆 Georgia’s achievements include:
• Winner – Best Training to Employment Outcome Award
• Finalist – AEN SA Apprentice of the Year Award
• Recognised for leadership on site and a positive, team-focused approach
• Currently contributing to the new Adelaide Crows Training Facility

Georgia’s journey highlights the power of creating pathways, backing talent and building a more balanced and inclusive civil construction industry.

We look forward to hearing Georgia share her experiences, challenges and insights as part of this year’s panel discussion.

🎤 Panel Speaker Announcement | International Women’s Day 2026

Inclusive change in civil construction doesn’t happen in isolation — it happens when leaders across the industry actively step up, listen, and lead by example.

We’re pleased to announce Steve Ainscow, General Manager – Asphalt SA/WA at Downer Group, as a panel speaker for the Women in Civil International Women’s Day 2026 event.

With more than 40 years’ experience across Australia’s road infrastructure sector, Steve brings a valuable leadership perspective grounded in innovation, sustainability and people-first thinking. He has played a key role in delivering Australia’s first 100% recycled asphalt road and continues to champion workforce development, collaboration and inclusive leadership across the industry.

Steve’s participation reflects the critical role men in leadership play in driving meaningful, lasting change — modelling inclusive behaviours, strengthening open dialogue, and helping build workplace cultures where women feel supported, respected and confident to thrive.

Join us as diverse voices come together to challenge thinking, share insights and champion a more inclusive future for civil construction.
