Repairs Done & The Raccoons Are Happy: We Are Officially Back Open! 🛠️🦝💛
They say we learn something new every day, and last week brought a very heavy lesson: water is incredibly heavy! I knew that fact, but I definitely didn’t think about how much rainwater would pool up when I put a tarp on top of our raccoon enclosure right before we got hit with all that heavy rain last Tuesday.
Unfortunately, that trapped weight caused a roof collapse, which triggered a massive domino effect of repairs. While we were putting up the new roof, the ladder actually ended up cracking the water pool. On top of that, areas previously secured (so they don’t escape) by the old roof structure suddenly needed to be redone. It was definitely a grueling chore!
We are so incredibly thankful to the amazing crew who jumped in to help handle the craziness. A massive thank you to my husband, my father-in-law, and our wonderful volunteers, Elysia and Taylor. We truly could not have done this without you all!
The good news is that the repairs are officially done, everything is secure, and the raccoons are now completely content and happily enjoying their brand-new roof! We are so glad to be back to doing what we love. Thank you all for your patience and support during that wild week!💛
P.S. On a sweet note, the raccoons are absolutely loving the crates we have in there right now…all 5 of them actually piled into a single one together! The ones they are using are just regular crates, but real milk crates are much more sturdy for raccoon chaos. If anyone has any real milk crates laying around that you no longer need, we would be incredibly glad to take them off your hands as a donation! 💛
