THE WEEKENDER IS HERE AND IT IS PACKED! 🤠🍂

Atascosa County has a full slate of things to see, do and support October 16–18 --- and Saturday alone may require a game plan!

And the weather is joining the fun! After a possible Friday shower, Saturday and Sunday are looking fabulous, with partly cloudy skies and afternoon highs around upper 60/lower70 degrees. Actual fall weather for a fall-event weekend? We’ll take it! 🍁

Whether you want to shop, dance, explore, dress up the dog, support a great cause or keep the whole family entertained, there’s something waiting for you somewhere around the county.

Take a look, make your plans and share The Weekender with someone who’s always asking, “What is there to do around here?” 👀

Event details may change, so please confirm with the host before heading out.

🍂 NOVEMBER EVENT CALL! 🍂

We’re beginning to build the November edition of All Around Atascosa --- and we want to make sure communities across the county are represented!

📅 Community events
🛍️ Markets and vendor opportunities
🎉 Festivals and family activities
✂️ Grand openings
🎓 Classes and public programs

All Around Atascosa gives the community a look at what’s coming throughout the month. We also use those submissions to help build each week’s Weekender, highlighting events as their dates approach. Sending information early helps us keep both resources as complete and useful as possible.

Comment your event below or message the ACEDC page with the event name, date and time, location, host, and a flyer or link when available.

The calendar will continue to grow as new information comes in, so events may still be added throughout the month. Help us gather what’s happening All Around Atascosa!

COMMUNITY INVESTMENT SHINES BRIGHT ✨🎄

Economic development isn’t only about attracting new businesses. It’s also about investing in the places people already call home and creating welcoming spaces that encourage residents and visitors to gather, explore and support the surrounding community.

Atascosa County is inviting businesses, organizations and community members to sponsor Christmas light displays for the Courthouse Circle. These displays can help create a festive destination in the heart of the county while giving sponsors an opportunity to take part in a visible community project.

The sponsorship deadline is November 9. Display prices vary, and an optional sponsor-recognition sign is available for an additional fee. Scan the QR code on the original flyer for the sponsorship form and complete details.

MEET THE BOARD | JOE EUSTACE, BOARD MEMBER
Experience. Leadership. Commitment.

Next in our Meet the Board series is ACEDC Board Member and former President Joe Eustace.

Joe brings decades of executive leadership and business experience to ACEDC. Before retiring, he served as President of Pioneer Energy Services, where his career gave him extensive experience in business operations, leadership and the energy industry. Today, he remains active in agriculture through ranching operations in Atascosa and La Salle Counties.

His experience also includes public service as an interim Atascosa County Commissioner, giving him insight into both the private- and public-sector considerations involved in economic growth.

After serving as President of ACEDC, Joe chose to remain involved as a member of the Board because he believes Atascosa County is approaching an important period of opportunity.

He would like to see the county compete for transformative projects, including heavy manufacturing similar to the major industrial operations located just north of the county line. With Highway 16, U.S. 281 and Interstate 37 providing important connections across South Texas and toward Gulf Coast markets, Joe believes Atascosa County is well positioned to participate in the continued growth of Texas.

Joe has also developed relationships with economic-development leaders throughout the San Antonio region. He believes those connections, combined with ACEDC’s growing countywide partnerships, can help bring greater visibility and new opportunities to Atascosa County.

“I believe Atascosa County is on the verge of something significant. We have the location, transportation access, resources and relationships to become a larger part of Texas’ continued growth. I want to help position our county to compete for major opportunities that create jobs and strengthen our communities.”

Although Joe has stepped away from the President role, his experience, institutional knowledge and commitment to Atascosa County remain valuable parts of ACEDC’s work. We are grateful that he continues to lend his leadership and regional perspective to the organization as we move into this next chapter.

Atascosa Means Business.

A LEGACY THAT NEVER GOES OUT OF STYLE
Gracie's Beauty Salon: Making History Look Good Since 1974

For more than half a century, Gracie’s Beauty Salon has been part of the Pleasanton business community. Opened in 1974, the salon has continued serving local customers through 52 years of changing hairstyles, changing trends and a changing community. Today, that longevity was formally recognized as Gracie’s Beauty Salon received the Texas Treasure Business Award.

Presented through the Texas Historical Commission and Atascosa County Historical Commission, the award honors independent Texas businesses that have remained in continuous operation for at least 50 years while contributing to the economy and history of their communities. Since the program was established in 2005, more than 700 businesses across the state have received the designation.

Longstanding local businesses hold a unique place in a community. They provide more than products or services --- they become familiar landmarks, preserve shared memories and build relationships that can span decades. Their continued presence also represents the persistence, adaptability and personal commitment required to keep a small business operating year after year.

Gracie’s Beauty Salon now joins a distinguished group of businesses recognized as part of Texas’s living history.

Congratulations to Gracie’s Beauty Salon on 52 years in business and this well-earned recognition! ✂️🏆

A COUNTY CONNECTED
National Night Out Across Atascosa County

A strong county is built through more than roads, buildings and business growth. It is also built through relationships --- the kind formed when neighbors know one another, families feel connected to their communities, and residents have opportunities to meet the people who serve and protect them.
That is the purpose behind National Night Out.

Tonight, communities across Atascosa County are gathering to meet local police officers, firefighters, EMS personnel, county representatives, businesses and community organizations --- not during an emergency, but over food, games, conversation and family fun. That distinction can be impactful.

National Night Out creates an opportunity to meet before an emergency is the reason you meet. A conversation beside a fire truck, a child introducing themselves to an officer, or two neighbors meeting for the first time may seem like small moments. But those interactions turn unfamiliar faces into familiar ones and help build the trust that strong communities depend on.

When residents feel safe, informed and involved, communities become stronger places to live, raise families, operate businesses and welcome new opportunities. Public safety and economic development may seem like separate conversations, but both depend on trust, cooperation and people who are invested in the place they call home.

Across Atascosa County, that connection takes many forms. Pleasanton is marking its 13th annual National Night Out with “Badges of Atascosa.” In Poteet, police, fire and EMS are coming together with residents at Canyon Park. Lytle is bringing its public-safety team together with businesses and organizations at the Community Center. And in Jourdanton, families will gather with local law enforcement at the Jourdanton Sports Complex. Each event may look a little different, but the invitation is much the same: come out, say hello and get to know your community.

Atascosa County residents have several opportunities to participate this evening:

🍓 POTEET NATIONAL NIGHT OUT
5:30–8 PM • Canyon Park
Meet local officers and first responders, explore emergency vehicles, visit community booths and enjoy food, games and family activities.

⭐ BADGES OF ATASCOSA
6–8 PM • Pleasanton River Park
Pleasanton’s 13th annual National Night Out brings together law enforcement, fire, EMS and community organizations, along with food, face painting, a dunk booth and more.

🦅 LYTLE NATIONAL NIGHT OUT
6–8 PM • Lytle Community Center
19031 Priest Blvd.
Meet the community’s public-safety team, visit participating businesses and organizations, and enjoy free food, snacks and drinks.

🚓 JOURDANTON NATIONAL NIGHT OUT
Jourdanton Sports Complex
Spend the evening with local law enforcement while enjoying food, games and family activities for all ages.

Wherever you attend, National Night Out is an opportunity to introduce yourself, ask questions, learn about local resources and spend time with the people helping build a safer, stronger Atascosa County. Because connection is not simply something a community has. It is something a community creates.

MEET THE BOARD | JOHN LONG, TREASURER
Business. Stewardship. Community.

Next in our Meet the Board series is ACEDC Treasurer John Long.
John owns Long Insurance and Financial Services, Inc. (John Long State Farm), which contracts with State Farm as an independent entity. For nearly five years, he has operated his business on Zanderson Avenue in Jourdanton.

Although many people know John through the insurance agency, his primary role is helping individuals and families plan and invest, while his team manages the agency’s insurance services. That work gives him firsthand insight into the financial decisions people make as they build businesses, raise families and plan for the future.

John and his family chose Atascosa County as the place where they wanted to put down roots and spend the coming decades building both their business and their life. As a local business owner, he wants ACEDC to help ensure that the county’s continued development creates meaningful opportunities for the people and companies already here.

For John, attracting new development is only part of the equation. He wants to see major projects and growing companies make greater use of Atascosa County contractors, vendors and professional services rather than bringing economic activity into the county while sending much of that investment elsewhere.

“As Atascosa County grows, we need to make sure that growth creates opportunities for the businesses and people who call this county home. When new projects come in, I want our local companies to have a seat at the table and a chance to provide the services that growth requires.”

John believes opportunity is essential to keeping Atascosa County a strong place to live, work, invest and grow. He would like to see more local families gain access to business ownership, investment and other forms of asset-building that can create lasting financial stability.

His commitment to the community extends beyond ACEDC. John also serves as a Board Member and Treasurer for Vida Resource Center , is a member of Cowboy Fellowship and serves as a business partner and mentor for students in the Jourdanton ISD P-TECH program, Jourdanton Pride.

As ACEDC Treasurer, John brings a business owner’s perspective, financial experience and a strong commitment to ensuring that Atascosa County’s growth benefits the communities supporting it.

Outside of his professional and community work, John is the proud father of two little girls and describes himself as the luckiest husband to his wife, Garrison.

We are grateful to have John’s stewardship, local-business perspective and investment in Atascosa County helping guide ACEDC’s work.
